Parts : Glow plugs, Low beam, aftermarket in general

Post by Orionsbelt »

1990 Pajero 2.5 TD. Inconsistent info on glow plugs out there... Pulled mine out this weekend - 6.2 v. Everywhere I looked I saw either 11v or 12v. I put in 11v and now no click. I find it hard to believe the relay suddenly doesn't work...AND the Haynes manual won't tell me where the relay's are. It "looks" like there's 2...although all the info I came across says the '90 has 1. Some advice please...

Just had my low beam burn out...seems when it rains it pours. The headlight looks pretty standard. This should be something I can pick up from Canadian Tire - anyone have a part number or what type of bulb I need?

Parts in general... Had the wrong thermostat sent to me. Long story short we went to a local parts place here in Calgary with the housing in hand. A standard $5 thermostat fits it...who'da thunk it. I will supply the part number later.

I'm not into paying some ridiculous price for parts I can get at Canadian Tire or Value Auto etc...
What else is standard? Oil Filters? Head lamps? etc???

Would love to hear from the guys that have been playing with these things for a bit... Thanks.

90 Pajero needs 6.2 volt glow plugs, the relays are located behind the battery close to the firewall. I would not put any $5 cheap thermostat. I think the rubber boot is missing on your headlamp to cover the wiring harness, that might be the reason why they are buring. You can buy 6 inch roudn sealed beam headlamp from Can Tire or Hella that uses H4 bulbs for better performance.

Your relays are fine. Get some OEM glow plugs. There are 11v available out there that need a different relay installed. I went through this already.

@ Spearo - I installed the 11v glow plugs that are hyundai brand [via Risingsun in Vancouver]. We set it up to be manual just as you mentioned.

Headlights... This vehicle can't be that unique, can I go down to the local parts place/canadian tire and get a headlight for this thing...cross reference part number?? Anyone...?

Search

Pajero = North American Montero

Most local parts stores can get any part for your Pajero.

If you have a 1990 I'm assuming it's a 1st gen (boxy type) ?

If so then order parts for a 1988 Mitsubishi Montero with V6.

If yours is a 2nd gen then order parts for a 1994 Montero V6.

Entire truck is identical for the exception of the engine.

@ jfarsang - Yes 1 gen box type. 2.5 Intercooler to be precise.

Thanks for that advice...that's good to know for the little stuff.

Would that include things like the fuel filter - Diesel vs Gas ? Any real difference there...

Anything to do with the engine will be different this includes filters (air, fuel, oil), radiator, exhaust, starters, etc...

Those parts I would order from some of the Parts people on here. Fair prices and good parts.

Very similar motor 4D55 (you have a 4D56T) has been used in Ford (Ranger), Mazda (Bseries), and Dodge (Ram50). It also is used in industrial applications.

Make sure your Timing belt, tensioners have been done and the cooling system is in good shape.

@ thedjjack - Thanks for the info on the other models...

Just flushed the system - new thermostat.
Timing belt was supposed to have been done. Tensioners? Something I have to pull the engine apart to get to?

the 2.5L has two belts (timing belt and a balance belt) and each belt has a tensioner.

These should all be changed at the same time (most people do this as getting in there is the cost). If the belts are done without the tensioners a bearing can go out on the tensioner taking out the belt. If the balance belt is not done it can fail and take out the timing belt. Just check that both were done. Usually people change out the water pump at this time as well as it is easy to access with the front covers off the engine.

Enjoy...
