Need some thoughts from some of the mod guys on here please and thanks...
I've come across a Garrett t04e turbo - I'm new to this so forgive the stupid questions.
Apparently spec'd for an International diesel - and equal to a T04E [I don't know what the significance there is] - bottom line is it would be a high boost turbocharger for a 4 or 6 cyl as it was built for a v8.
Would this fit a 2.5 turbo pajero? Would this be too much...?
I've read lots of posts on the few basic things you can do to these engines for more power. A larger turbo being one of them BUT I have heard that bigger isn't always better...and there'd probably be a necessity for a couple other mods/adjustments such as more fuel... ?
So providing it fits would this be a mod that gets you more power but you trade of MPG?

To further... Has anyone discovered the "sweetspot" regarding larger turbo's for these 2.5's? Continued reading tells me a larger turbo would need the extra exhaust power to spin it - if not enough then no spool. Or you get very little power at low rpm's if your not generating enough exhaust therefore only kicking in at higher rpm's.
Thoughts and info on what larger size would work best? Has anyone out there played with this..?

Sorry man, prolly a little to big, although I don't know garrets that well. I had good results putting a TD05 16g (mitsu turbo) on a toyota 3L (2.8 liter in a hilux), you want to stay relatively small on these engines to retain the low end, otherwise the lag will make it a pain to drive. I put a 15g compressor wheel into the stock housing in a few 4D56s with good results as well, but I think the egt's would lower with a TD05 as our TD04 are soo small. Oh ya, don't compare the 4 in the garret to the cartridge size numbers on the mitsu as the numbers have no corelation.

Ok thanks Mephisto... On the note of size Garrett's own web site claims it commonly used for a 4-6 cyl.

But I hear you on this small engine might not have what it takes...especially in the low end.
Silly questions will now follow...
TD05 16g ? This is larger than the stock sitting in there now...? This is a 1990 2.5 intercool - not sure if the intercool makes that much of a difference...
16g? vs 15g... what do those numbers represent?
Cheers, Orion

Ok here's a better question...
Say I go with the TD05...what else would be needed to take advantage. Other than perhaps the obvious of more air in [snorkle] and a larger exhaust to offset that lag.
I'm seeing TD05's all over on Ebay.
