I've combed the archives for this and haven't found anything that actually gives instructions as to how to get this part off the vehicle or how to fix it (clean it) if possible.
I had this part go 2 years ago. Replaced it, now having the same problem, and am on a waiting list to get the part. Problem is, this is my only vehicle and if it gets to the point where it won't start, I can't afford to sit and wait for who knows how long. I'd like to take a go at cleaning it up and seeing if it will last at least until I can get a replacement (and then make cleaning it a regular maintenance thing so I don't have to replace it every 2 years!). But I'm too chicken to try it without some sort of instructions, so if anyone's done this and can explain the process that'd be great.
BTW, in case somebody wants the details: shifter started getting stiff in the cold, then noticed a lag between the shifter and the shift indicator in the dash, then had a hard time getting it to show it was in park, now - the shift indicator never shows it's in park, when I shift from park into reverse nothing shows, when I then shift into drive the indicator shows reverse and I have to shift down to 1st then back into drive, at which point it shows I'm in neutral but at least I can drive without the reverse-beeping thingy going, and a couple of times it doesn't register as being close enough to park for me to start so I have to shift around until it's both in neutral and showing in neutral and then it will start...
And I'm sure it's unusual for this to go 2 years after being replaced, but I live in Halifax - where different car manufacturers do their corrosion testing because (found this out from a Honda engineer out here for just this reason) Halifax has the highest corrosion rate on the planet. Literally. Nice, huh?

Bit of a late reply but if you've not already repaired your selector module, I split my old one one to have a look inside.
