L300 Auto Transmission Fluid Change

Post by sbc_trls250 »

So this is going to be my first time changing the auto transmission fluid in my L300. Just going to be doing the drain and fill (recommended by CVI because my tranny fluid was pretty dark), but I was wondering which plug is the drain plug (I just want to be certain, since I don't have any spare fluids lying around if I drain the wrong one), and if there's anything special I should know (a picture would be great if you've got one). Thanks a lot for your help.

If your fluid is dark, I would recommend to replace the filter as well since the current filter is probably filled with dirt/sediments which will keep contaminating your new oil that you put in.

Not sure of your location but if you are near an auto shop, have them do it.

If you haven't done if before, don't know where the drain plug is (it's square are the bottom), and don't have spare fluid (which you'll need), then take my advice.

Get CVI to do it, they are very proficient and will tell you how it is ~ but won't scare you into doing something that you don't need. When you pull the tranny dip stick out and wipe it on a white rag it should appear pink. If it is brown or black then something is getting too hot, kind of like toast if you take my meaning. Do it sooner than later. As Jessie says ~ cleaning the filter screen never hurts.
