Trailer Hitch
First project that I have completely finished on the truck.
Started from cardboard then drew the peices on the computer, I happen to have the luxury of a CNC plasma cutter in my garage so down there I go and make this.

Re: Trailer Hitch
Bolt the bits into place and welded them up. The hitch part I stole from something else just for lack of effort. Brackets mount to the rear "bumper" mount holes plus I have a supporting plate inside the frame for the other 2 holes to mount.

And here is the finished product "before triming the extra off the end and painting".

Re: Trailer Hitch
If by "bumper" you mean that little white tube, then I don't know, never looked. It could very easily be welded onto the hitch I suspect. Maybe I will look into that tomorrow. Kind of low on the priority list now that I have $500 in aluminum sheet waiting to be carved into fuel tanks.
Spare tire stays though.

$500, eh? Wow, little out of my price range right now. Combined with the VO Controller it sounds like you are going to have a very nice high end system when you are done.EricN wrote:I have $500 in aluminum sheet waiting to be carved into fuel tanks.
Re: Trailer Hitch
$500 for 110L though. You could do 1 large 60L tank for about 1/3 of that. I am changing my mind a bit though. Not really sure if the extra weight and effort will be worth it so I think I might drop one of the smaller tanks. I may have some extra aluminum after.
Also, no reason you have to use aluminum. A 4'x4' piece of 18 guage mild steel would work just as well at a fraction of the cost. I am not really sure why I bothered with the aluminum to be honest.

604-552-2034, It will take me about 20 minutes to cut the bits. You just need to find a hitch part.

Re: Trailer Hitch
That would be awesome, I was running around moving my daughter and would have liked to stop by. I hope I can take you up on the offer in a month or so. I can also clean and deliver a Pontiac Ferio gas tank for free to you, if your interested? The wrecker let me strip a suitable tow bar in the past for just $20.EricN wrote:604-552-2034, It will take me about 20 minutes to cut the bits. You just need to find a hitch part.

Re: Trailer Hitch
Feel free to call when you are in town. I am going to be having back surgery probably the end of September so depending on when you are around, I might need some help lifting the metal etc. Just bring 4 grade 8 nuts bolts and washers. 1/2" fine or coarse, your choice, 1-1/4" long. And if you have the hitch part, bring it too.
As for the gas tank, I just finished building 2 aluminum ones so don't really have a use for it but what are the dimensions out of curiosity?

Re: Trailer Hitch
Will do, hey I can lift up to 40lbs right now
. Good luck with the Surgery!
Right now I'm in a WCB back to work program in Courtenay full of guys who've had lower back surgery. I myself had cervical fusions in February this year.
Oh, the tank is 51" at it's longest and just 11.5" deep including the fuel lines. It's an odd ball shape for sure. There's pictures here; http://www.delica.ca/forum/wvo-tank-hel ... -1021.html
Best Regards,
Kev

Re: Trailer Hitch
Your trailer hitch mounting arms look very similar to the arrangement of the hitch I got from E&H Hitch in Burnaby. It mounts not only to the 'bumper' holes, but also further forward near the rear axle.
