Whitehorse Wannabes

Post by yukoner »

Hi. There's a white Delica in town, but we have been unable to catch her to ask her anything. We'd be interested in hearing from anyone who lives in or has operated a Delica in a cold area. And I mean cold. -40 and still air cold. (Wind chill does not count)
The kid and I sorta fell in love with the Delica in Japan. It would seem to cover most of the things I love about my Jeep, and its a diesel to boot.

Hi Carl -- welcome to this forum!
:-D

Glancing at the MEMBERS MAP and to this FURTHEST NORTH THREAD, Whitehorse places you closest to the North Pole (these days, I ought to be saying "Canada's North Pole")!

Docsavage (in Williams Lake) posted some information on his experience with cold weather starts HERE.

Cheers,
Mark

Hello Carl, my name is Brian I used to live in Whitehorse in the late 70s it was a great place for a teenager, I hope it still is. I own a 91 white super exceed. This week I am in the process of selling it to a buyer from Peace River. It is to be out fitted with a block heater and synthetic oil and with a little Yukon Hooch in the fuel tank it should do just fine in those cold Yukon winters .I'm no expert, but if you look around on the forum you get some very good advice. Next year I'm going to Skagway with my new Delica , I will be taking my family and showing them the Great White North. Skagway , has fun 4 th of July celebrations that are family orientated so it should be a great trip. Hey that should be a Delica club road trip!
Cheers brian

Welcome!

Be sure to get the a Delica with the twin battery option and then put the 2 best batteries in there you can fit in. There was a post on one of the other Delica forums, quite a few moons ago, about someone in northern Russia have no problem starting there Delica with a recirculating rad heater (diesel type) and a battery heat blanket. There was mention, in that post, of pretty low temperatures.

Hi Carl,

Welcome to the club. :-)

There was a post on Delicaclub about the dieselheater BCDelica mentioned, have one on our L300 and had no starting problems at minus 25 on Norwegian holidays.
