L400 1996-2006: Virtually identical?

Post by Rural »

So I've had a 1995 L400 for about 14 months. It has had it's problems (mostly related to cold starting), but has been reliable. I found myself curious what is down the line in Delica models and looked at the Wikipedia page on the Delica. The way I'm reading the page, it looks like the 1996 L400 remained unchanged right through 2006. Is that really the case?

It would be really reassuring to buy a Delica with the knowledge that it could be used for parts for a new Delica down the road. And 10-year stretch must make parts easier to find for that model. No?

You're correct.

Few differences between series I (what you have now) and series II (1997+)
The upgrade is mostly cosmetic with changes to the lighting clusters and front bodypanel, with the integration of a moulded bumper in place of the original three section bullbar. The engine was upgraded with an electronic control type distribution type jet pump.
Many people (in other countries) prefer the series I because it has better approach angle in the front (instead of that moulded bumper on series II) and the injection system is mechanical (simplicity/reliability) instead of the electronic injection on the series II.

I also think that the bull bar on the series 1 looks cooler. :)
