engin temperature questions
I just had the simple question of how long should one let his turbo cool off before turning the vehicle off.Iv heard a couple stories of none delicas cracking a head cap from not letting the engin cool after use, makes me nervouse cause thats a very expensive thing to fix.
Re: engin temperature questions
I assume by "cracking a head cap" you mean cracking the cylinder head? Not going to happen by shutting down on a motor that is running at proper temps. It can crack or warp if you overheat the motor.
If you are running a turbo motor and just did a big long full throttle climb to the top of a hill, you want to let it run for a minute before turning off the car so that the oil has a chance circulate through the turbo and cool it down. I think what happens if you shut down hot is the oil carmalizes (sp?) in the bearings and you risk destroying them. For average daily driving, it isn't that important, just drive really easy the last 1 or 2 km of your drive and you will be fine.
