Glow plug scare

Post by Firesong »

After reading all the possible icky scenario`s regarding glowplugs and
controllers over the past bit I came across something close to home.

Click... putt puttt putttt puttt puttttputtt ...

Had the glow plugs cycling with the switch ok but it was like they weren`t
even there.... Weather was -8 celcius or so. Not plugged in.

We were out in western alberta on vacation and it got me wondering.
Once it was warmed up all was groovy.

We got back mon night and I was using the search engine for stuff
on glow plugs etc. Scary :)
Great fuel mileage in the 1990 std tranny on this trip!!

I decided to simply clean all the contacts and battery terminals.
Took the glow plug bar off and cleaned it etc.
Then fired the beast up no problem. 'deeeeeeeep sigh'

I haven`t yet had to play with buying new plugs yet but I am sure it`s
coming.
I think my next to-do thing is a new exhaust, main oil seal and the
valve cover gasket. I have everything (except the exhaust) so it`s going
to get done in the next say........ 6 months. Valve cover in 2 weeks.

BTW I love my bypass filter and the money it saves me on normal filters....
