Underseal for noise reduction.

Possibly the maddest and most disgusting thing i've ever done. Somehow I ended up with 4 gallons of thick, gooey bitumen underseal and immediately had evil thoughts. I stripped the Delica and coated the internal panels and floor with the stuff. A disgusting job, I had to leave the van for a month to dry out and stop smelling like fresh tarseal, but the results are pretty awesome- the insides are a LOT quieter now. Though I suspect fitting an actual interior may have helped too (it was used as a builder's van before I owned it).

Definitely not recommended. It took me weeks to get all the tar out of my hair.

In the first 6 months it smelled a little like fresh tarseal (tarmac? What's Canadian for the black stuff they make roads out of?) but it was subtle, and now there's no smell at all, it seems all the volatiles evaporate eventually.

Of course I did leave it for about a month to dry out before reassembly.

I'd recommend anyone thinking of doing something similar just use Dynomat or similar soundproofing that's intended for vehicle interiors.
