So I'm looking forward to the upcoming spring and summer with my Delica. Trying to think of some places/trails/camping locations I want to check out when the weather clears up. I was scouring these forums for a thread related to places people like to go offroading with their Delicas around the lower mainland area. Besides the usual weekend trip planning (ie. whipsaw trips), I can't seem to find any - so I thought I'd start one.
SO.....
Where do you like to go offroading with your Deli around Lower Mainland (say, Whistler to Hope area)??? Mostly thinking day trip type excursions, but I know there's lots of people from all over the place so this thread is in no way limited to the lower mainland (or Delicas for that matter, as we have quite a spread of vehicles on these forums!).
Thought it might be a good idea to get a list going on one thread.
Cheers!

Re: Where do you go offroading?
I use to do this camping/fishing trip with my dad every year. We drove up Vancouver island to woss lake then drove the logging roads back all the way down and out renfrew then sooke. We set aside a week and a half and it was a great loop, bring lots of fuel/food/fishing gear, and two spare tires.
This summer is out due to a baby any day now but next year I plan on rerunning the loop

where to begin...
bc4x4.com - link here: http://bb.bc4x4.com/forumdisplay.php?5-Trail-Talk
has the most mature and seasoned local BC 4wder's
On their trail talk forum area, you will find days, weeks of talked about, done, will do, maybe will.. 4wd routes and areas in BC.
http://www.4wdabc.ca/
mainly Toyo guys but they love JDM's
again, same thing. everyone from a teenager noob to a disgruntled, seasoned redneck 75 yr old offroader in there to help you get your feet wet and swim
There's a few books if you enjoy time away from the computer and do things old-school, solo with a map and a guide. This is how I began my 4wd journey over 2 decades ago.

This is the one that I have owned for many years and have only gone through maybe 20% at most long trails.

The best trips I have ever had was a fully stock vehicle ready for anything a good friend and a back road map book.

Wow, thanks Jesse - always very thorough with your responses. Those are some great resources!
For what it's worth, triangle road out in east richmond can be fun to kill an hour or two. This time of year it can be interesting too - as its generally half mud and standing water. But definitely a good place to hone some 4x4 skills, and maybe have a camp fire if you want to stay! I've heard stave lake can be fun as well for keeping you entertained for a couple hours. Though it sounds like you'd need a trunk full of extra old stock to fit in....
Any other places people like to visit nearby? north shore area, or out towards langley/abbotsford perhaps?

Re: Where do you like to go offroading?
There is a thread somewhere on Vedder Mtn which is a good easy trail system that is great for getting to know your vehicle. Check out Hale Creek, Fossil Beach, Sunrise Lake, Weaver Lake all around the west side of Harrison Lake. They all have varying degree's of difficulty, not sure that you would want to take a delica to all those places, but with careful driving can be done and lots of views and sights to be seen.
Hut Lake area near squamish is alot of fun but more rocks. Thats if you can make it through the entrance.. definitely not for a L300 or stock L400 (even with lift good luck..) Most people look at it and say, thats a road??? Where??
If you're just into exploring FSR's then just up the 99 there is Furry Creek FSR, Britannia Creek FSR and countless others that usually lead to a bit of exploring, small swimming lakes great in the summer, some abandoned mine sites. The snow line is still a little low to get anywhere right now though, so bring a shovel and watch for icy roads. Some were brutal last week, couldn't go up, turn around or anything without almost sliding off a large hill!
Before you head out, make sure you have at least a recovery strap, some food and water and good clothes and footwear in case you have to walk out. Have fun.
