JAOS Mud Flaps $590 I think not!

Post by LeeHammy »

So as most of you JDM nuts know JAOS is a bad ass but highly over priced (and over rated) accessory company. I do however like the look of their "Rally Style Mud Flaps" but the price of $245.00 for a pair.. yes PAIR! is ludicrous. So .. me being me and having and Italian last name said to myself.. "I could make those for much cheaper" .... so I did. ***SKIP TO SECOND POST TO SEE START OF PHOTOS THEN BACK HERE TO CONTINUE :S ***

Went to army navy for stainless hardware.. Down rigger stuff works well stainless cable split swivels etc to anchor the ends of the flaps to the body so they don't swing forward and hit my tire.. just like them authentic fancy JAOS ones!

I then used clear silicone and used a straight edge to "silk screen" a thin protective layer over the decal to keep it new and protected..

Made a hole punch out of 3/8ths copper by reaming the ID and sanding the OD to a point.. then 1 hour and 25 hand cramps later I had holes to match the fancy aluminum I had made up!

Thanks to a fabrication shop at work and access to copious amounts of scrap aluminum and stainless I was able to bang these out of 14ga aluminum, bend them, and use the punch to rittle them with holes (JAOS says they are for air to pass through to eliminate drag.. I say the are speed holes like homers)

#1) After making them and all the work involved that's probably what I would try to sell them for. Haha

#2) The real ones? Yipes... It was tempting but this works for now, I hope they last. They did fine through hunting season and this winter. Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for them?

They look identical and you an brag that "Yeah, I made them." I think they are awesome and would love a set but I am settling on some crappy tire blah flaps. As long as they do the job, and cost $30 :-D .

Nice looking flaps but I don't understand why you would tag your handiwork with someone else's brand-name.
But ya nice flaps

Better re-sale value. The manufacturers of fake Gucci's etc don't put they're own name on the product for a reason. :-D
