Minding the Gap [Finished]

Post by legionnair »

Well it started with finding of building a snorkel kit but I could not get over the hole required to the side of my delica. So I then explored other was to get cleaner air and a bit of rammed air effect. Looking around my air box I noticed what looked like a air duct missing. So I did some research on the sight and came up with opinions of why it should not be there and pics of delicas with the hose in place. Well time went on and driving gravel roads 1-2 times a month I was finding my filter would plug almost every 5000km and performance would suffer greatly. So back to the drawing board enough was enough. I then went looking through three different manuals at the air intake system and behold it showed a hose connecting the ducts in question. So here is my solution

Well It was tight and I had to add 45° angled pipe to each end but it fits with a clean out on the bottom. No time will tell if it was worth it.
The nice red pipe got a bit dirty but that will clean up.
Also today went to work and sand blasted my new wheels and then put a heavy coat of clear on them. Just need to find some new rubber.

Just got back from a drive with the new air duct and there is a noticable drop in EGT above 80km cruising on flat ground at 100km temps are around 700ish. But the biggest thing I noticed was how fast the EGT drop when you let off on the throttle. So there is no doubt a ram air effect. Which should make the clean out valve on tue bottom of the filter canister work a bit better.

Will keep you guys posted

That's all you seem to be is negative, but there is a noticeable difference.
Since you did not do a before and after in the van with me on the same stretch of road you do not know.
And any extra air that can be added is a benefit.

Just like adding a snorkel everyone says there is a difference, now I am not saying mine is adding as much a snorkel. But my first intention if you read the whole thread was to get cleaner air.

I think it will work

Hey legionnair
I agree, getting the clearer air in there is a good thing.
I had just posted about how my air filter is clogging up quickly.

I had looked into putting that ducting in, and had actually found the
real piece. I read up on some of the UK sites about it and couldn't decide
whether to do it or not.

Seems stupid to have the air filter behind the front tire, especially when
gravel roads are a possibility.

Rez, the video really had no reason to be posted. Not really contributing
to this thread.

Yeah I did alot of searching this forum and the UK one but all I could find was someones opinion of why it should not be there. Looking at it it made no sense to me. I thought a snorkel would be great and research the shyte out of them but to do it cheaply was a pvc setup and yhats just not for me neither is cutting a hole. But then I found it in the manuals and that sold it for me.
Firesong if you have the ducting I would install it. Maybe if I was driving thrugh huge water holes I might be concerned but for me and the 95% on road it is great.
