dirty transmission fluid

Post by monkeyman »

I've had my Deli less than 6 months now, and on a recent oil change noticed the tranny fluid to be quite dirty.

It was changed when I purchased the van. Any thoughts. I intend to change it right away.

hi, are you sure they change the filter & put a good transmission fluid on it, you have to know if they just Drain the fluid but dont open & replace the pan,
all the delica i got from japan i do take out the pan , put new gasket & change the strainer metal filter on it. to make sure its clean & service. in japan usually they dont change it, cause its expensive over there to replace, i mean labor there is expensive.
so just check & open the trans, pan & from there you"ll see it.
hope everything is o.k. used dextron 3 from original toyota fluid it work very good for me. original is dextron 2 for this trans, but toyota has the upgraded one which is dextron 3.
just do normal maintenance & your delica will be fine.
cheers:

Hey Mardy,
How often is the recommended tranny service?
Just had mine done - and hope / believe they checked the screen. I know they used a sealer instead of a gasket on the pan - so clearly it was opened up.
Tks,

Hi, i recommed about 20-25 k, used dextron 3 from toyota its good & same price as penzzoil, detron 3 is upgrade from 2, you should replace the screen, you think when you see it it fine, but still some dirt blocking the screen on it you wont notice, but when i change new screen filter my transmission shift more smooth than before.
you can buy the screen filter with gasket on it, cheap about $25-30 a set. its up to you which one is better if sealant works for you or not, i usaully used the one with gasket on it, it fits good & no leak,
if you do this maintenance you wont have problem with this transmission. just normal maintenance to your car.

i pre -order it for 1990 Montero, complete set with steel screen & gasket on it. a package, you can order thru i guess lordco or VAP auto parts, now with synthetic oil you are saying is that oil ot gear oil, for oil i dont used it, cause this engine is not design for syntheic oil, synthetic oil only came out 1997, so this engine is not design for that. i see some of this engine using synthetic it end up of having engine problem cause the synthetic oil is has a thin layer.
this engine for me & we try many delica engine from back home in the phils & here like the regular oil that the big diesel truck is using.
hope this help

hi, i see , sorry, on my opinion i really dont know if its good on the old type of tranny, my guess is that if you put synthetic trans fluid
its make the fluid slicker which is good, but if that could create problem with the trans old seal then its another problem,
to tell you i really cannot comment on that,if good or not, Sorry,
all i know i used this toyota dextron 3 to all my delica & since then not a single problem using this fluid,
my suggest is that just do regular maintence & you wont have any problem,
Cheers;
Mardy
