Transmission hunting.....fixed!
Transmission hunting.....fixed!
Took a look at my friend's L400, which has had a problem with the transmission unable to "make up it mind" about what gear to be in ever since she bought it 2 years ago. Especially on the highway would hunt between top gear and lower gear. Took a multimeter to the throttle position sensor TPS, it was reading 1.5 V when warm. Turned it as far clockwise as it would go, now reads 1 V. No more hunting. It works!

Re: Transmission hunting.....fixed!
1.5 would make it lurch or hunt alot. The best voltage to set it at is 0.78, but 1 is pretty close and I am sure alot better. I had several issues with the TPS and even replaced mine with a new one. The key is the pack of little coloured adapters that allow the voltage to be set at different levels. There is not one specific colour of the adapter, but you have to take some time trying a bunch until you find the right voltage range. I became an expert at doing this because I tried about 10 different little adapters.... and swore alot.
