Passenger side wing mirror loose.

Post by whatthejeez »

I've been unable to solve the problem of a loose wing mirror on the left side. The click detents that hold the assembly in the optimal position for viewing must be worn out. There's about 1" of play, so when in motion the unit wants to fold inward just enough that I get a great view of my side windows...

Attempts to loosen the (nearly impossible to get at) tiny phillips screws on the underside of the assembly in order to remove it quickly led to stripped screws, really colorful language, a fresh 1/2" drillbit, and a bunch of aluminum flakes on the shop floor...still can't get it off to take it apart and find out if I can tighten it somehow...

I suspect these units (being powered) aren't cheap. Do I have to hack the door off to remove?!?

Maybe I'll just use a few tek screws and call the folding part optional. I need that view.

Did you ever figure this out? I just got my Delica and have the same issue with the left wing mirror.

I have a loose mirror (my spare) and can take some pics to show what one would have to contend with for screws and such.

If the motor mechanism has come loose, there are some screws inside the mirror that can be tightened as well I think I can get my mirror out and demonstrate the internals too.

The phillips screws are very soft material. Easy to strip the heads....but a dremel can be used to grind a slot in the head and then a wide flat-blade could be used to loosen the stripped screw(s). Then you just have to replace them 10mm socket-type machine screws.
Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!
