Doesn't work , the glass has nice tint on it so I'm assuming it's unrepairable.
Every line has at least a few inches deteriorated adhesion or micro corrosion.
I do have power going to the window so I'm thinking of taking that and installing a small fan directed at the glass.
Having a dog seems ensure there is always enough moisture in the air to create persistent fog and it might be nice for windows closed air distribution too.
Anybody try this or have comments/ideas for defog repair?

Use a multimeter to test if there is connectivity and where the breaks are. You can pick up some "paint" * at Canadian Tire that can fix a few breaks. However, if the breaks are extremely severe (as they sound like they are) then the only real option is to have the lines replaced - or replace the entire window (which is probably cheaper anyways).

I tried this "defogger paint" on my rear window of my Toyota 4 runner. It did not stay on well, and I think it only worked once or twice before it fell off. However, the design of the rear tailgate in older 4 Runners was dumb how it rolled down into the tailgate and got badly scratched.

Re: Rear window defogger
you can get after market window defroster replacements that look very close to stock. sticks to the inside of the window and has the same lines as stock or close to.
or you can get a rear defroster from a BMW convertible or similar vehicle, these are usually compact units that have the fan and heating element to defrost the rear window in a convertible and are usually mounted behind the rear seatback and blow the air upwards.

Re: Rear window defogger
To test for connectivity I would have to poke thru the tinting layer , I don't want to mess that up , it looks good now.
I do get vague connectivity from the contacts on either side but not enough to juice getting thru to defog any thing
My van was obviously always stored in direct sun as the gasket material around the back window is in danger of crumbling away so I'm thinking that would make the window $$$$ to replace.
Does anyone know if they replace that gasket ( about a 4 mm wide filler strip) when your window is changed?
If it is I'll keep an eye out for a new window from a junker maybe.
In the meantime I have small 12v fan I can experiment with.
I'll post what happens.

Re: Rear window defogger
Got a little heater fan from Lordco , it's a little ghetto but it defogs the middle two thirds of the back window fairly quickly , it's wired to the existing defog circuit with an inline fuse too. the wiring tucked behind the plastic panels nicely . if I do find a cheap replacement for the back window I can restore to original.
