How snorkel fit

Of course you could probably build your own with $30 worth of PVC tubing This one looks like it be a less of a brush snag

I guess if you get a snorkel you have to take care of the back end too

Thanks! Cool pics! Wonder if the $400.00 one is actually from ARB Safari? The middle pic of a white van has ARB top to bottom. Actually, my Samurai (will be gone soon, planning to import a Jimny) has a snorkel as well. I used ABS plastic pipes and a Safari snorkel head (about $100.00). Just have to VERY CAREFUL when boring the hole on the fender (as there is no return if one makes a mistake). But I can also tell you that snorkel sucks water droplets in on highway badly. One solution is to turn the head around, but for westcoast winter, there is still not perfect. Don't install a snorkel if just for the look.

not necessarily, the intake is a whole lot more crucial than the exhaust as the exhaust has pressurized gas coming out of it, it will usually keep the water out as long as you don't stop (and stopping mid stream isn't advised anyway!)

As for the snorkels, as stated earlier, don't get it just for the looks as they have serious drawbacks, they suck up EVERYTHING on the highway (bugs, dirt, water, etc) and clog your filter really quickly, the alternative is to turn the head backwards which solves the junk collecting problem, but reduces the airflow (also not good)...

I've been toying with the idea of setting up a snorkel like our factory intake is (with the "missing pipe" to let junk fall out) and with a way of quickly connecting/disconnecting it when actually planning to get wet... I'm sure it's doable, I'm just not yet sure of the logistics, or if it's really worth the bother, as I probably can't really justify a snorkel for myself....

Besides looking quiet cool, a snorkels function is get the engine intake up as high as possible, reducing dust intake and preventing water intake during deep water crossings.

Somebody else already discussed justifying a snorkel, but other modifications are required if your planning deep water wadding; timing belt cover sealing, differential venting, sealing wiring connections, other's item may need TLC too.

Well in Cuba the other week plenty of vans were fitted with snorkels. The guide on the bus back to the airport said they can get deep floods during the raining seasons, with lotsa roads under water, yearly. I did wander around Havana plenty, but never saw a automotive accessory shop.....

Don't want to get into politic discussions here either, so let's just say that in Cuba people have to repair/service their cars with whatever material they can get... usually scrap material from dead cars, etc.

The wandering around Havana excepting to find a part store was meant completely tongue in cheek - just my weird way of trying to be funny. Have been told it doesn't always work, but I keep trying to be anyhow. I always stay off political discussions here too.

I know this is an older thread, but just thought I'd chip in to say that my snorkel arrived through customs this week....

It is identical to the one on the white van shown above - it is made from ABS and is manufactured by a company called VTTR.

If you like, I can pass on details of how to contact them directly and maybe some of you could arrange a 'group buy' from them?

Total price delivered to the UK including import tax etc....was £230.00 ($450)

Not cheap, but hopefully worth the money considering the amount of deep water I keep finding myself in these days!

I just noticed that the white van pictured above is a RHD with a right-side sliding door. Must be a rarity. Wonder if it has a left-side door too?

I've wanted to pop my exhaust out that side too, and go straight up behind a snorkel. I think that would be really cool. It would need some sort of protection from people touching hot things, That would add to it.
