After the Delica meet...

Post by piyeguyo »

The weekend after the Calgary Delica meet, I decided to take my family and do the same trip I had done with the "guys"... Ghost River, starting from Cochrane.

But this time I tried a few different things, including the "river crossing" that we hadn't done last week. I tried the original spot and once again it looked a bit scary (a little too deep), but thanks to an exploratory hike we did, I was able to find a new spot that looked like a good place for river crossing. After a very exciting and a little scary 20~30 secs (it seemed more...) of maneuvering though water and rocks we reached the other end. (I have to say that it was exciting for me and my 10 year old, not for my wife...)

The idea was to look for a road and keep going, but after doing a bit of exploring, we found that unfortunately there was no way out (without cutting a few trees, that is...)

So what did we do? Another river crossing, so we headed back to the same place we had started. This time I did it with more confidence and maybe a little faster, so after a few bangs and going always on 4L we were on the other side...

Unfortunately I didn't have a chance to take good pictures of the river crossing (it was too cold to get wet), but here's one that shows the Deli, just before completing our first aquatic trip:

Congrats on getting your feet wet, so to speak. I'll have to go back there and do more exploring. Just a wonderful area.

Glad to have helped you find a place to take the family for a picnic!

I wish I'd been able to come to the Calgary meet. It looked like good times were had by all. I'd like to check out the route you took from Cochrane to Ghost river, do you think you could include some simple directions? It'd give me some time to check it out on google earth maybe...

Those photos are great though, a lovely area for sure. Must've been fun to see so many delis rippin' around off road.

Cheers

Most of the directions are on the first thread on the planning: http://www.delica.ca/forum/calgary-deli ... -1329.html in the Deli Meet 2007

Compare the directions with the map that was in the description of the trip in the Trips and photos thread: http://www.delica.ca/forum/calgary-deli ... -1399.html On the map the black line of our track in the bottom right corner of the map starts just before the right turn off Hwy 1A onto the Forestry Trunk road.

Also, the very west point, where we had lunch was at N51 19 05 W115 12 18. Just copy and paste the numbers into Google Earth and it will fly to that spot. Then you can compare the map with the Google image and have fun.
