What is this?

Post by Rattlenbang »

I found this bottle in the passenger side rear quarter. There is one on the other side which is for the rear window washer, but then what's this one for? And you seem to have to completely remove it to fill it. The wiring nest is for a trailer.

The bottle itself looks like a radiator overflow bottle for the Starwagon. What it's doing back there is a good question. Generally that space is where the tyre jack is kept. I'm wondering if it's some kind of water/meths injection mod tank. Have you spoken to the vendor whom sold you your wagon about it? It is definitely not stock.

Pfft. I thought it looked familiar. And I went and bought another one from the wrecker, at the time I wondering why the coolant bottle had been removed. I don't have contact info anymore for the PO. Very strange; that hose goes somewhere, but I can't imagine running a hose all the way back from there to the engine compartment, and I sure didn't seen the other end when I replaced the head. I also was wondering why the jack was just rattling around under the back seat. Weird.

Is there a bottle in front of the battery compartment? Directly in front of the batteries.

There wasn't until I bought one. The PO moved it back into the location showed by the picture.

How extraordinary. I'd be curious as to why the PO did this. What his reasoning was ~ there must have been a motive, no?

I agree, but the only way is to track that hose, though I'm not going to pull off the interior panels to find where it goes. I'll check inside the engine compartment and try and see if it ends there. I'm willing to do a little digging. The funniest part is the hose runs upwards, not down and below the van, which is where you think it would go if it was going to run the length of the van. The other thing is, how is any fluid that's supposed to be held in there sucked out? There's no visible pump...

Maybe I should open it to see if there's heroin inside.

Ha. I was just thinking that before I read your words. smuggling something. There again it could be from a leak in the roof (reaching, I know). In the picture that you posted the bottle appears to be stained with a pinkishness. What would cause that?

You sure it doesn't go to the rear heater element, that would make some sense coupled with the fact that the engine compartment is cramped. I would also add extra cooling to the system locating it back there :) Curious to see the final word on this.

Hah, turns out it's not connected to anything; the hose was just shoved up into the space. I opened it and it has a little rust in there, but no crack. Very strange. Anyone need a used coolant bottle?
