Running on carrots soon

Post by Rattlenbang »

Just picked up a good almost new veg oil conversion kit (200km on it). Going to install it in my L300. Just trying to decide if I'm going to try and use the tank that came with the install (pic) or find another one.

This one would take up a lot of room in the back, and although it doesn't stink yet, how long will that last? I guess i could try to mount it below, with a sheet metal guard.

Mine is mounted where the spare tire goes, which is the usual spot for an L300. Of course that means that you have to move the spare tire somewhere else, like a custom swing-out rear bumper carrier! No reason why you couldn't use this tank with a shield. Veg stinks too much for me to put the tank inside, especially with little kids. What about the rest of the kit? Did you get a Racor heated fuel line? Any other choice goodies?

I'm also not seeing the heater for the tank. Maybe it's because there isn't one. It's a good idea to heat the oil in the tank using heat from the coolant lines with your own design, or one of these: http://www.wvodesigns.com/raw-power-hot-stickb.html
and that means you need a metal tank...

The setup was installed with a PlantDrive VegMax2 filter/heater, a vegetherm heater, a 6-port motorized Valve, lots of hose, brackets, and the tank. Got it for $200.00. Now to figure out where to arrange everything. You're right, it doesn't come with a heater but my last conversion didn't have one (westy diesel).

Can't speak to a Westy diesel as I have a 2.1 litre gasser [currently on blocks as I had to remove the transaxle cause the ring and pinion were blown arggg! money pit, but that's another story]. The general consensus here on the forum regarding Delica's is that a heated tank goes a long way to reducing strain on the IP. Some setups even include an in-line pump, but my system doesn't have one. I'm using the identical Vegtherm and Vegmax2 filter. You got a smokin' deal!

a 12V inline pump can be had for about 50 bucks, so is that a good option? FYI I have an Vanagon auto transaxle that you could get a set of gears out of.

I can't personally endorse a pump, because I'm not using one, but here are a bunch of threads talking about the Walbro.

No I don't have a welder and sadly, my last attempt was in shop class when I was in high school.

I'm using a Walbro FRB 22 uplift pump from an unheated tank. Then Vegemax heated filter head, then Vegetherm.

I didn't think I needed heat in the tank where we live here.

Wow, pricey pump. Is such a beast really required? The Bosch units in both Mercedes and VW didn't seem to need an aux pump. Does anyone know what pump is in the L300?
