Glove box owners manual.....

Post by philmeup1 »

Sup folks??

As I sit here drinking screw drivers and dreaming of summer, I gots to thinking bout my '93 Delica L300 high roof. I picked up some diesel additive and came online to figure out what the fuel capacity is on my van.

So it's an auto and I guess it's 75litres right?? That's cool, but then I got to wondering if there's a glove box owners manual out there for these things?? Probably in Japanese right? So that wouldn't help me. But maybe there's an English version out there somewhere with all the important stuff like how to operate things inside like the cool box...very important stuff!!

Rising Sun hooked me up with the larger technical manually the engin which has been indispensable, especially for my mechanic here.

Anyone know the deal on glove box manuals??

Chin chin!!

The Japanese manuals are surprisingly understandable, given all the illustrations in them. Understandable and funny, because of the illustrations.

Check for a manual out of England or Australia, they'll be in English. There was a website that offered manuals from Oz - can't remember what the name was.

I bought an L400 manual through our counterparts in the UK (http://www.mdocuk.co.uk), and I'm very happy with it. Their store is here:

Hey, that's a great link to share. I bought a manual for my L300 off of amazon UK. It's the same manual that's in the link you supplied 8-)

So would you be willing to copy and PDF it for folks on the forum? I notice that several L400 copies are floating around the net, but not for the L300. Willing to even throw in the beer.

Hey, I can do that!! I think I owe enough to a pile of people here on this site. So it's good karma payback time 8-)

I'll have to have someone more tech savvy than me help to put it on here and I know a good friend who will do it for a few beers....

So I guess it's beers all around!! I'll keep you posted

Cheers

Just one thing, guys. These owner's manual translations are under copyright. If you PDF them and distribute them over the internet, you could get into hot, deep water, as it were. Perhaps it would be better karma to post a link to where they can be purchased in the Delica FAQ section. I think the other way could lead to a karma that might run over all our personal dogmas, as it were. Don't forget that this site is pretty transparent to anyone who wishes to look at it.

Having said that ~ I have to say that the L-300 one is very good to have. I purchased my used copy from another member, glad I did for the information I have gleaned from it like recommended gearing down RPMs in the 2H, 4H & 4L modes.

I hear what you are saying, but I think there is little concern for out of print owners manuals for obsolete vehicles. What raises the ire of companies is when your copying is undercutting their profits. This is more like enthusiasts helping enthusiasts. In fact, the tech manual stuff on this site is potentially more troublesome because there is a market for none OEM service manuals for used vehicles, and it might have been lifted from those sources.
I have a link on my blog for an OEM manual for an obsolete Harken roller furling unit, and people are very grateful to find that resource, and I've never had a problem, and its been there for years.

The English owners manual I purchased for my l400 was from a company that is still in business, I believe they are in New Zealand, their business, is reprinting owners manuals into english, and they have reprinted them with permission from the original copy right. I don't know whether they paid for this permission, or just went to the trouble to get it, but they will currently do an english reprint of pretty much anything you want. I think this is a valuable resource to have access to, and buying one of their copies and then redistributing it for free, seems to me like it would be harmful to their business, as well as unethical. Just my opinion, but I have let others borrow it,(not for the purpose of reproduction) to familiarize themselves with a new to them vehicle. Most have then bought their own. Mine is currently on loan, I'll be getting int back soon, and then I can give you the website of the company that produces them.

It is a controversial issue; one could argue that by loaning out the document, you are also depriving that company of business. Where's the line to be drawn? For myself I've never used owner's manuals other than a quick flip through as they are usually pretty self evident. My only use for one would be a one-time use to see if there's anything significant I don't know about my van, which is why I would prefer to "borrow" one, electronically or otherwise.

I think the line is drawn at copying with the explicit intent of redistribuing.

Fwiw I am not a good example of someone who respects copyright laws :-) but even so, its kind of clear

We used to copy the BC building code while on school and got in a good amount of trouble from out professors (a lot less trouble than a lawsuit though). Autodesk makes more money suing people for illegal use of their products than they make selling their product, at $5000 for a license that's saying something!
