Diagnosis to grinding /clunk?

Post by LeeHammy »

My Pajero as of recent when I turn off the engine clunks to a stop. Its a noticeable clunk that I can feel and seems to happen around the transfer case and the 4wd shifter shakes when this happens... Transmission? Engine mounts? Transfer case? Bad news or no big deal?

The other thing I just noticed is when turning side to side ( about 1/4 turn of the wheel) there is a bit of a grinding feeling momentarily, Feel it through the steering wheel slightly and in the floor boards. Its subtle and I don't think it is the steering pump because I know what that sounds like and with this there is no noise. It feels to be coming from around the transfer case or in front. Wheel bearings? Ball joints? Transfer case mounts? Related to the above? Its not the suspension because I parked it and rocked my truck it side to side violently and nothing.

Ideas would help. Thanks!!!
