Seems like my front door lock actuator died today :(
At least thats what I think happened.

I (very) carefully removed the door paneling to investigate. I came across tons of mastic insulation in the door panel which made further investigation impossible. If anyone else has removed door panels, have you seen this kind of sound insulation?

I have to peel some out to access the mechanism. Does anyone know where more insulation can be purchased? Thanks for your help.

Ok so I shouldnt have been so eager to hit the "post" button. Finding sound deadening is way easier than I thought.

But here is a different, question: Has anyone ever had to repair/replace the lock actuator?

Scenario: I noticed that the van was trying to lock the doors at +20kmph (normal), but it kept trying.
I figured that the reason was because it detected that the passenger side was still "unlocked" position.
I pushed the Lock/unlock button a few times and the passenger door did lock/unlock sometimes, but it seemed to "struggle" even when it did lock.

My conclusion is that its definitely getting power.
Perhaps the motor is giving up?
Perhaps there is too much physical resistance?

Once I got the panel off, I blasted some silicone spray, but to no avail.

Your thoughts are appreciated as always.

I've done it with a generic actuator from princess auto. Good instructions are here:http://imageevent.com/russpix/photos/ce ... conversion

If you go that route you need to disconnect a wire to the original actuator or you will burn out the Central locking module.

the part of the actuator that blows is the resistor that is right where the power goes into the little motor

Thanks Rik - but I suspect it is the actuator itself. The autolock "feature" is annoying, yes. However, in my case the passenger door only unlocks occeasionally even when I use the driver's side central locking button. Unless you suspect otherwise, I think I will have to replace the actuator.

Chris, thank you for the link. Good to see that there is only 1 type of generic actuator. That makes the chance of buying the wrong one..... low.

I bypassed the resistor, but the motor only works once in a while. Any one know of anouther car that runs there door lock this way.

Success! I once again have a fully functioning auto door locks.
Princess Auto no longer sells these generic locks. But there are loads of them on Amazon.

That was definitely one of the fiddliest jobs out there. FFR, if anyone does this job - make sure you remove the vertical widow glide rail. It make the task infinitely more enjoyable.

you can even used regular power door lock actuator from any stereo sound system shop

I found the motor for a 03 lancer fits and is geared perfectly. It is a bit of work but I got mine from a pick and pull, and 1h later my door lock worked for the first time. (For me) The motor has no resister so I think it is improved somewhat.
