smoking package..???
So, apparently my Delica came with a sort of smoking package. Has anyone heard of such a thing?
It had huge wind deflectors over the driver and passenger doors - huge, like half the window was covered, and i'm 6 foot tall, so my field of vision out the side was VERY blurry, also, i couldn't lean my head out the window to talk or look, just too big. (they are gone now, unfortunately i got a little overzealous with the foamy brush at the car wash, and "oops", smashed one side while i was talking to my son who was with me)
Also, and here is the unique thing. In the back, between the fluorescent light bar and the rear swivel light, there is a pair of ceiling mounted air cleaners. They are a set of dim yellow lights, with a fan, which i can set the speed on, and a picture of a cigarette, which has a slide bar under it too, so i could presumably set how much smoking I was doing at the time. neat huh? I guess they might also be handy for someone who camps or cooks inside their vehicle...(?)...
Has anyone seen this before? I don't think it's standard Delica gear, is it?
If it is, then i feel like a goof...
if it's rare, then i'll take a picture and show them off...

I've seen monsoon guards like those. Do they vibrate at high speeds?

Re: smoking package..???
Those were on quite a few Delica's. There were even larger sizes available if you can believe it. I've seen those smoking devices on one other van before and was told it was a factory option to have them installed.

No, they didn't vibrate at high speeds, they were actually pretty good. That is, until I broke one at the car wash. Then I removed them both and got rid of them (it was very cold, and they were brittle).
I'll get a pic of the units in a minute.

You also have a very interesting driver side mirror. It's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like you would do well to crank your torsion bars too.

"Crank my torsion bar" - I'm not sure what you mean exactly, maybe you could send me a PM? I've only had this for a month, so I'm working out a lot of kinks.
Here is a picture of the unit up close. It is a Mitsubishi Car Cleanaire. I'm not sure if you can tell from the picture, but there is a smoking symbol, what appears to be an ionizer symbol with letters A/M, a fan control and a light control. Here is a pic up close

Yup, that's the same as the one I've seen. The van I saw it in had 2 and as mentioned before, I was told they were a factory option. The owner came up with an alternative use, but I forgot what that was.
Cranking the torsion bars will lift the front end so the van sits level and doesn't dive as much under braking. They sag naturally over time and have to be cranked back up every once in a while.

Awesome, tnx.
Here is the pic of the two...

I'd like to find out what other use they might have. Unless, that is, there is a smoker or someone who would want these and have something to trade??

Wow... So these are like "The Smoking Light Is On" lights? Like what used to be in airliners?sooperAndy wrote:Awesome, tnx.

I love my eaves. They seldom, if at all vibrate. I love driving down hot and humid forest service roads when it's so humid that there is no dust coming off the road. It's just about to rain. Real hard. Got the windows down and the ride is a smooth swell, 'cause I've set my shocks soft and I'm doing ninety with my arm resting, elbow out the window... listening to King Crimson. Red. I love my eaves.

falco,
if the picture at the bottom of your post is any indicator, your eaves are about half the size of the ones that were on my Delica. It was literally hard to see out the side, because everything was blurry... not exactly safe. also, couldn't poke my head out to talk, they came down that far.

I have the same air filters in my van, too. Don't get to excited about them. They are rather useless IMO. They seem to turn on every once in a while, although I have them turned off. As well, the green light comes on from time to time, too. I think the filters are controlled by the ghost of the last Japanese owner. Which is ok. I don't mind the company. It would be nice if he could get the karaoke machine working thoguh. Then we'd be having some fun.

Re: smoking package..???
There are three basic window eave configurations.
The smallest is just a plastic lip that runs from the bottom of the A pillar, up across the top of the frame and is roughly two inches deep.
The mid size eave is what I have, as seen in this picture, this configuration is the most common on the Delica Starwagons.

I find that by using a plastic & vinyl restoration product, such as the Auto Glym yellow label (what I use), I can remove the cloudiness from the eaves.
I find that sticking my neck out the window requires a little "technique" but I don't find it all that difficult and frankly ~ I'm not doing that all the time, anyway ~ and the benefit of the open window shelter that the eaves provide out weigh the occasional neck stretching exercise in my humble opinion.
The large size eaves actually wrap around the bottom of the A pillar and onto the leading sill. I'm not particularly fond of this style eave but there are those who like these ~ it's a matter of taste, I suppose... smiles.

The only bad thing I've found with eaves/guards is trying to exit or enter the van through the window.
