Canadian tire for tires?

Do I dance with the devil? Canadian Tire has the tires I want on sale (major brand popular tire, not motomaster trash) but..... one of the reputable Deli dealers has told me they sometimes have problems with such tires from Can Tire. I was described to me that to sell tires at the rates they do, sometimes they get forctory seconds or tires that apear to be the same as normal, but may be a lower grade of rubber, or say 4 ply instead of 6 ply. Sounds like you would not know the difference unless you really know tires, or physically inspect them yourself. I know this sort of thing happens in the ski industry for players like Sport Check..... but don't know my tires as well. Either way, I would not be getting them mounted there. It's a $200 savings, so pretty temping. Thoughts?

I suppose i just had something on my mind and didn't want to hijack someone elses thread. That having been said, my original question might still be relevent. Is this just a bit of folk lore that C-Tire tires are seconds or is my dealer just trying to make a few more bucks?

I'm not sure about them being seconds. With ski equipment, seconds indicates a cosmetic flaw or a flaw that can reduce performance. None of these will reduce the lifespan of the equipment or make the equipment fail. If a tire had a flaw, I can't imagine it would be sold unless it was just cosmetic. The ply of the tire doesn't indicate a second either because you can request what ply you want.

And again, you have to remember they have a good warranty. They wouldn't back their tires so well if they were prone-to-fail junk. There's a lot of urban folklore out there of questionable veracity.
