CV grease (other than moly) and what else to replace?
Planning on replacing all 4 CV boots this weekend, I've read a couple places that inner and outer CV joint grease is different due to the different kind of bearings? I called the local mitsubishi dealer and spoke to a mechanic (said it was a Montero) and he said nah it's all moly grease. Just wondering what others thoughts are. ALSO, since I'll have the shafts out, is there anything in there worth replacing? Bearings perhaps? Thanks!

I found bearing part numbers in the Wiki, I'm guessing those are for L300 though. Anybody know for sure?

If you are going to do the boots, why not do the whole parts? Does not cost all that much more, and if you are pulling them out to get at the boots, it just makes more sense.
If you are not getting any clicking, then there is probably no need to change them.

Re: CV grease (other than moly) and what else to replace?
Well, I had a shop replace my balljoints and they tore a slight hole in one outer boot that was almost brand new. I patched it and it's still holding fine but I would like it fixed. Then, the other day I noticed that on the OTHER side the inner cv boot had a huge rip in it. The joints aren't making any inappropriate sounds and I've patched both rips. So the outer on the drivers side needs replacing and the inner on the passenger side. So I figured I might as well do all four.Mr. Flibble wrote:If you are going to do the boots, why not do the whole parts? Also, I didn't think about replacing the entire axle and I've already bought the boots.
