How do you say...?
Delica? is the "i" pronounced like "e" or does it sound like the "i" in "it"? I always thought the latter, when a guy I met yesterday asked me about my Deleeca.

Re: How do you say...?
In japanese it would be 'lee'. But then the L would actually be a cross between an L and an R, and the 'ee' would be very short. so if you used japanese pronunciation it would actually sound quite odd.

Interesting. Shows the limits of the roman alphabet: you can read a word and not know how it sounds. I will now say Dereeca like I should.

Re: How do you say...?
I seem to remember reading somewhere that Delica was actually a contraction of "Delivery Car". So to add to the confusion, I sometimes use this as well.

Re: How do you say...?
Yeah its a contraction of Delivery Car, the Japanese are fond of loanwords from english, and they will then modify them to suit their native kana set which is the equivalent of an alphabet crossed with a syllabary, so a lot of english words become bastardised to the point they are often unrecognisable, another example is Starwagon, which is written as スターワゴン or SUTAAWAGON, but it wont be pronounced as wagon, more like wah, and gone.

The whole Delivery Car thing is all I need to know to pronounce it 'Deh-Lih-Cah'. Or just Deli for short.

Re: How do you say...?
I've read that "Delica" is not a contraction of "delivery car" but a contraction of "delicate carry" (humans being delicate soft tissue). I ran this past my bud in Japan and he agreed that this would be more likely, especially considering how much emphasis Mitsubishi puts on defining P25W(agon) and P25V(an), a van being for cargo. I'm voting for "Delicate Carry"

...which would still give us a contracted name pronounced 'Deh-lih-cah'.
