The ability to transport my motorcycle around in the rear of the van needed to be maintained… otherwise this would have taken on quite a different look.
So… I wanted to improve the sound, a couple of 10" subwoofers are taking care of that. The speaker boxes also hold 2, 5.25" aftermarket speakers angled forward (and the subs' amp). The boxes will eventually be mounting points for a fire extinguisher in the rear corner, and possibly an onboard, mounted air compressor (though I have decided it is probably overkill, it may still happen). They are also the mounting point for an eventual shelf/slide out bed.
In the spirit of Dynamax matting, I've tried the poor man's approach to sound barrier insulation. You can see the butyl rubber based adhesive sheeting (the silver stuff)… post application research indicates this probably will have close to zero effect. :)
Also got hooked on the idea of laying down vulcanized rubber matting on the floor. This with a topping of plywood and a finishing of diamond patterned vinyl completes the project, finally, as the weather is warming and it is easier to work on things.
The doorstep is aluminum diamond plate, it came out quite well. A bit of cutting, a bit of bending, and a bit of blind riveting did the job. The speaker box tops are also trimmed with the diamond plate (yes, there is a lot of diamond plate amongst the interior now, hopefully not an overwhelming affect). The rear, side step, and speaker box edges are trimmed with aluminum angle or channel pieces (is it still called angle iron, if it's made of aluminum?).
I'm not a carpenter, so everything does look a little boxy. But, so does the van, so we'll see how it goes and maybe some opportunities to make changes and improvements along the way will arise.
