What I have learned this month

Post by Firesong »

1) just because a shop says they did something right doesn't mean they did. Some technicians might just be late for lunch , lazy or in a 'stupid vehicle ' mode.
Case in point. A) took l400 in for ujoints last summer. (2013). Then all last year started looking for a gremlin vibration. You don't want to know what I spent trying to figure it out. ask me about putting my van up on jackstands and getting it up to first 60 and then 105 kmph.
- cause: lazy tech. Dropped a needle bearing in the cup of one of the ujoint ends. Then couldn't push it on far enough so used a thinner c clip!!

B) I've got horribly brutal cupping on my tires. Gone through everything they say. Balancing tires, brakes, rotors new shocks and more. Funny thing is they did a full front end go over. The. Finished with a wheel alignment.
B) part 2. Still had a vibration and a fellow geocacher who is a mechanic said to bring it in to the shop. Geocaching discount. He puts it on the hoist and calls me over. The lower ball joints are totally shot. And they had been that way for a longgggg time. Needless to say the other work done 3 week previous was a waste..... Another wheel alignment.

I'm sure this is mostly coherent. Try to follow along. Macro can tell you the frustrations and shit show I went through.

So I'm still trying to figure out this horrible vibration. (Insert original jack stand story). Yup. Bastards who did my ujoints messed up. Now the whole drive shaft is at Wayne's Driveline. Excellent guys btw. They told me exactly what happened. Another $400 later. Redo the ujoints and now rebalance the drive shaft. They tell me to go tell the original shop and let them know they caused it.
Reluctant since I dislike confrontation.

Calmly told them about all this. And... He can't find any reference to doing my ujoints. Go figure. Then I mention the technician who could care less about doing the brake / front end work (ball joints).
After a couple of days of 'can't find the invoice' I say forget it.
Nothing is going to resolved here talking to you. I get a nice email saying sorry we didn't catch the ujoint and ball joints. I've let my employees know so hopefully it won't happen again.

No
What won't happen again is me taking out work vehicles to you
No more tires purchased. No more happy referrals. Instead I will slam your work and bring in to question your employees competence.
K&K auto in Saskatoon
Stay away and be aware.
Any shop can take your money. If something isn't being resolved try someone else.

(Deep breath)
My van is running nice now. Atomic Auto has helped me out big time. Thumbs up.
