L400 High Idle Switch
Just got my Delica and am now looking to install a high idle switch to help with warming her up and those times when im sitting at idle. Ive been doing a lot of searching, so far i've gathered this:
There is a solenoid on the IP I can hook into (Anyone have a picture?)
I can remove one of the round plastic buttons under the steering wheel to locate the switch.
I should have it set to 1200RPM
I have done lots of 12V wiring on my boat but never a car. I am unfamilar with relays and how to do this job, does anyone have a link to some guidance? Been searching lots but havent found anything yet.
What kind of switch should I use for this? This will be a good learning project for me!

Re: L400 High Idle Switch
If I'm not mistaken there is a mechanical high idle mechanism on l 400s for warm up, look it up in the manual , never adjusted mine

I'm not familiar with that. I have a throttle adjust in my Cham.

Re: L400 High Idle Switch
The Gen I L400 2.8TD uses a mechanical IP and is usually equipped with a manual throttle control for setting idle speed.
The Gen II L400 2.8TD uses an electronic IP so your idea might be possible on that version. There are only a handful of Gen II owners who visit this forum, perhaps one of them can confirm if the Gen II has a manual throttle control or not.Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!

My L400, a 1995 Royal Exceed, does not have this.Big-Bird wrote:The Gen I L400 2.8TD uses a mechanical IP and is usually equipped with a manual throttle control for setting idle speed. The Gen II L400 2.8TD uses an electronic IP so your idea might be possible on that version. Any idea where to get it?

My '96 Jasper had the throttle control, but my '96 Exceed did not...

Flibble: If you want the manual cable the best local sources for used units would be Commbs, Rising Sun Imports and maybe Amazing Auto but the previous 2 have an extensive collection of Deli's on hand that are used for spareparts.
The other avenue is to poke around the EBAY.CO.UK website and find an England based auto wrecker who will ship the used part to Canada.
I have used Scottland Yard Spares with great success.

Re: L400 High Idle Switch
I have the series 1 L400 royal exceed. Ive found where the switch should be, just a plastic plug sitting there. Ill ask around for a switch, anyway I could get an aftermarket fast idle switch to work? Ive found plenty for diesel pickups....not sure if they would work though.

I wonder if they did not come with them?
