1994 Space Gear 2.8 liter diesel radiator leak

Post by Lake »

I have been warned the radiator in the Delica are plastic and needs to be replaced as soon as possible.
I just noticed coolant leak coming out of the radiator seems to be at the joint lines. The engine temperature gauge went up higher than usual. So now my Delica is parked in the garage.
Is it advisable to replace the radiator? if so what is the best place to get it? I am Calgary.
Also should i replace the plastic reservoir coolant container as well? I seen people put in metal ones in youtube.
It is a do it yourself job?
Any feed back greatly appricated.
Thanks

Lake

I haven't replaced the rad but my expansion tank was leaking as you said the plastic got brittle. My advice is to replace the expansion tank if you get a chance.

As for where I'm not sure. I like looking around and in the end usually get parts from

https://partsouq.com/en/catalog/mitsubi ... catalog=JP

http://mitsubishi.epc-data.com/delica_space_gear/

http://yahoo.aleado.com/ (thru a proxy bidder who bundles up and sends all your loot together. I used from http://www.fromjapan.co.jp/ when I was looking for a o2 sensor that here would cost $750, got a used one for about 20.)

Of course I haven't priced out a new rad so for all I know they could be quite reasonable from one of the B.C shops.

Lake: The rad swap is a simple job. Made easier if you have a garage. The rad's don't normally leak unless the bypass line on the top rad-tank has cracked which is a vulnerable weak point on the L400 radiators.

Its the15 year old expansion tanks that have the leak problem due to UV exposure at the gap between the hood and fender and their age.

You can get OE radiators and expansion tanks from any of the BC JDM guys like Rising Sun Imports, Amazing Auto, Rocky Mountain Imports, Maximum Overdrive.

The metal expansion tanks from TIG WELD 4U are sweet units but a new plastic tank is just as good. BTW TIG WELD 4U also makes an aluminum rad for the L400.

I am holding a Delica Tech night very soon( I live in Calgary). you should watch for it an attend if you are able. Will probably be a Saturday so Edmonton owners can try and attend too.
Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!

Hey Lake

Just replaced the rad on my L400 using a unit Rising Sun shipped my way. Had ProActive here in Calgary drop it in. So far, so good.
