L400 Exhaust system (now with video clip - see pics)

The OE system finally gave in to Alberta road salt and split down the tube seams in more than one place. Diesel exhaust water is so darn corrosive! Dam.

So now its time to get an upgrade. Going for the 2.5" pipes but the muffler choices have me stumped. I want good flow of exhaust but don't want the drone that makes your ears ring for hours after a drive.

What have other Spacegear owners done?

Yes! I will be watching this as I need to do the same by summer.

To add to your questions: rear exit or mid exit?

Rear facing tail pipe is what I want. Having a side dump just gets in the way when I'm on the trails and it can also upset fellow drivers as a side dump would put diesel exhaust into the face(s) of drivers beside you. Not very pleasant to get a face full of sooty ash.

If you can wait until we get above 0 out here, I'll post up what I'm doing.

Basically, if you want quiet, find an OE system. I picked up a takeoff from a Chevy truck with a 6.2 that I am going to adapt to fit. It's 3+ inches, so it will flow, but it will also be quiet, as it is OEM.

With the turbo, you can't really oversize the exhaust. Whatever gets it out the back of the van with the least resistance. I am going for a side dump exhaust, but I am going to turn it down so it's not blasting directly sideways into people/cars.

I'll try and remember to snap a pic of mine too, 2.5" through a small magnaflow straight through baffle, out the back with a 3" tip. I like it. On the highway the engine drowns out any exhaust noise.

The restriction at the stock Turbo is still 2" so I am looking at the 2" and 2.5" system. The stock bends could be flattened out a little to reduce restrictions and then obvioulsy dump the stock 4-baffle muffler and get a nice stainless unit with a single baffle. Cap off the system with chrome down spout to direct exhaust to the ground so my trailer doesn't get sprayed with soot.

Gonna do this next week. Will post pics when done.

Does your Magnaflow have a single baffle or no baffle?

If I recall it was a straight through, I almost straight piped it but I wanted it a little quieter. Although, if I did it again I'd straight pipe, Why not???!!

I think the world you're looking for is "awesome". And it's plenty.

Just kidding, it's not loud at all. You can hear the turbo whistle but it doesn't sound like a straight piped car or anything. The turbo kills a lot of the noise. I like it quite a bit. I assume it's louder than stock at highway speeds but I have tire buzz then anyways so I already have a drone.

I stand corrected! :-D

Do you remember how much the whole thing cost?

Thanks :-)

Errrrrr I want to say $700? It was a couple years ago though so I don't remember exactly. That's from the flange, and a new flex pipe. They only put a 6" flex in mine though. My exhaust system shakes a fair bit more than it did stock, I think because the flex pipe is so short.

We need to hear this "awesome" Macro.

I am gonna record before and after too. Going.with the 2.5" system and the Flo-Pro system.
A little torn about the style of tip but I can chase that next week I guess. Check back on Friday...Feb 27.

That's a good idea about the audio. Maybe one clip outside of the vehicle idling, and another clip in the drivers seat while driving around/accelerating?

Are you choosing one of the Flo Pro from this page?
