One of my white connectors - the one connecting battery to starter - has melted. Now I have to lift up engine cover, fiddle with connector with one hand while turning ignition with other. Needless to say, it cramps my style a bit when I want to flee the scene...

Are these things a Canadian Tire kind of purchase, or do I need to source it from somewhere special?

I could do that, but was hoping Canadian Tire would have it. I could always ask Butch if he has a spare one kicking around, but he's closed now and I'm hoping to fix it this weekend. I'll see what's around tomorrow, and call CVI Monday if need be.

Go to a wrecker and pick up a set of male and female couplers with the correct wire count and fix both ends yourself. A little bit of solder, some heat shrink tubing and you're back on the road.

Look for something in the engine bay as these plastics generally have a higher melting point than the ones used in the dash or body panels.

As I recall, these are fusible links? Aren't they?
Or do you mean like the heavy cable directly from the battery to the starter?
That one is pretty standart, if you can't source it at CT, any autoelectrician can crimp one for you...

If it's what I think AoM's talking about ~ these aren't the fusible links ~ there are little wires that are not directly related to the main power and have little connectors that used to be white and have yellowed with age. Mine blew and Overlander Jay and Christine (TardisDeli) came over and rescued me. In the end Jay just removed the burnt out connector coupling and connected the two wires together. Having said that, I'm making a wee assumption here and am not exactly certain of which connector AoM is dealing with. There aren't that many "white connectors" in the battery bay and I'm guessing it's the same one that went in mine.

So if you'd rather go to Cdn Tire, then take your burnt out connector there, I just found that NSAP is generally cheaper and the guys working there are more likely to know what they are talking about than the "associates" at Cdn Tire.

Butch is great for small parts like these and has helped me out on a few occasions, I'd recommend him as he is also a wealth of information and an honest man with a good sense of "Malasakit". The only thing about this situation is that any connectors that he might have are going to be just as old and likely to burn out.

Could you post a picture of the connector? Just so we know which one we are dealing with.
