Possible water pump failure

Post by jaggedfish »

Hi all! It's been a long time since I have had the time to visit :?

It seems that my water pump in my L400 may have stopped working. Van suddenly started running hot and I thought perhaps the thermostat had stopped working. I have done the usual thermostat test and found it to function properly and yet the engine still appears to be running hot. Coolant levels are good.

As I am on the Sunshine Coast I don't have any repair shops (that I know of) that do work on Delicas so will likely have to take on the task myself. Can anyone guide me as to where the pump is located and if there are any threads regarding this? I did a quick search but I just get all the for sale ads that mention water pump replacement.

Thanks in advance!
Ian

Water pumps are easy to change. You can do this without removal of the radiator but I recommend you pullit to minimize damage to the plastic tube connections.

The technical section of this forum also has the how-to instructions on the whole water pump change process.

each section is downloadable as a PDF.

Look in section 4 : http://www.delica.ca/manuals/L-400%20Ma ... s/4M40.pdf

Make sure your water pump has the gasket in the box when you buy it! Don't want to find out it was missing after you get back home. This is also a good time to check/change belts and the thermostat (if older than 3-4 years). The thermostat is located right beside the water pump.

About to do this same job. Any other wear parts that would be good preventative maintenance at the same time?

The radiator's main hoses....in particular the lower hose which may need to be cut off the water pump inlet port.
