Anyone have any experience with 4 cyl gas models?

Post by mapleridge818 »

I've been driving my L400 3.0L v6 gas for 3 or 4 years now. I'm extremely happy with it. It's been exceptionally reliable. For the last 50,000kms, all I've done is change oil.
Anyhow, someone backed into me today, and my van might be a total loss.
I will probably be in the market for a new van, but it will be another gas model, for a few different reasons. I was thinking of trying the 2.4 L gas engine. Figured It might be a bit lighter on fuel.

Anyone have any experience with the 4 cylinder gas engine. What are parts availability? I know the v6 is the engine that's in the montero, among other north american vehicles, so parts are easy. How is the power? I'm not a race car driver, but the diesel is really slow on the freeway, how does the 4 cyl gas compare?

Any info would be great.

Hey MR
Too bad, that's a bummer :-( , hope you're happy with the next Delica too. Any parts that you can scoop before it's taken away?

I owned a 95 L400 2.4 for 70k kms, yes the fuel mileage was better than my present V6 (185hp) and the PD4W (145hp) has more horsepower than the diesels(125hp). That being said it's difficult to step back from the power of the V6.

The PD4W was built 96-06 but I see very few, if any, on the auto auctions in Japan. The vans are virtually identical except for engines, both engines easy and cheap to acquire parts for. Oil filters are different but air filters the same. Both are great vehicles.

V6s are often auctioned with lo mileage and much more reasonable prices than the diesels. No bashing the diesels but it's all quite subjective.

Good luck :-D :-D
