Clutch Part Numbers

Post by PolyTek »

I've been doing a little digging around in the course of finding a high-friction performance clutch for my Delica.

My ID tag lists the transmission as the V5M21 (which, BTW is not listed in my Russek manual. It lists the K135 and the R5M21, which is the 2wd version of this tranny).

After looking at http://www.milneroffroad.com/K94.htm I discovered that the clutch kit listed for the Delica is the same as the L200/k77 pick-ups and the Challenger (Montero/Montero Sport), so I hoped that the transmissions were the same, or at least the same family, but I was still unsure if they would match up, as the UK Challenger is a diesel, and the US Montero is a gasser.

Then I discovered a great online manual site that had excellent specs and info for North American vehicles, and quickly found detailed info on the Montero transmissions here: http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/09 ... oPages.htm

AutoZone does, in fact, confirm that the V5M21 transmission was in North America gasoline Montero, specifically "The 4-wheel drive, 5 speed V5M21 manual transmission was only used on the 1990 2.6L engine-equipped Montero", so based on that, we should be able to order a clutch kit that fits a 1990 2.6L Montero.

Centerforce lists 1990 Montero clutches and components here: http://www.centerforce.com/clutches.tpl ... ryear=1990

If you search the Centerforce application guide for earlier model Monteros, you find that the parts are the same back to 1983 and make no distinction between the different available transmissions.

From this, I conclude that if you have a V5M21 transmission in your Delica, the Centerforce part numbers that will fit are:

Centerforce I - CF780581
Centerforce II - CFT581780
Centerforce Dual Friction - DF581780
Centerforce DFX - 01515004
Throw-Out Bearing - 422 (lists part #550 for 1983.01 - 1986.04)
Alignment tool - 52008

I suspect that these same parts should fit earlier Delicas (1983-1989?) with the KM135 listed in the Russek manual. My guess is that the KM135 is a 4-speed 2wd transmission, and that 4wd Delicas would be equipped with the 4-speed KM145, as AutoZone states that "the KM 145 is the KM 132 transmission with a transfer case attached for 4WD vehicles". Note that AutoZone has the KM130/KM132/KM145 listed for the Montero ('83-'89), as opposed to the KM135 listed in the Russek manual for the Delica. As an additional note, the L300-delica trans.pdf (Pajero Sport - Manual Trans) in the Wiki lists the V5MT1 transmission for both the petrol and diesel variants.

Hope some of this is useful to someone other than myself, and isn't re-hashing old news.

Comments and confirmations, please.

Cheers,
Darryl
