Hey there folks,
I've been working on camperizing my '93 L300 Delica. I've got a Z Bed from an old Westy Bus in the back. There's storage underneath, and a sink the slides out the rear when the back hatch is open. As I continue to tweak things here, I'm contemplating what else would compliment my set up.
I have the cool crystal light roof set up, and even the power shades still work. But the roof is rusting from the inside as they all do. I've contemplated fixing it, but after seeing a post with what's all up in there, I've decided it's way above me (pun intended). I also thought that this might be the perfect excuse to consider putting a pop top roof up there when it's gets to the point where the rust is just too much.
I've been doing a little searching on here and noticed a company called Reimo that made tops for these vans. I'm guessing that it would most likely be difficult to source though? Friends of mine just had a fibreglass high top put on their '89 Westy custom made by some guy. I saw it over the weekend while camping at a folk festival near my home and it looked great.
Does anyone on here have any experience with these tops? I think the only way someone would make a fibreglass top for one of our vans is if they were able to produce a few of them at a time. Regardless, that's what I want to do next to my machine. I owned several Westy's before I bought my Delica and this would certainly make the camping much nicer.
Cheers, Phil

Re: Camper pop top
I'd be interested for sure. Been doing some reading about doing it myself and seems like an easy enough thing to do if there was a kit made. Someone could be sitting on a gold mine.

PinkPig made his own! It's not even slightly an answer to what you're asking, but it might be inspirational. Or disturbing. Your call: http://www.mdocuk.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=37252

Wow. He did some serious work. Curious if, at the end of it all, given the chance, would he do that all again? I know a lot of people who put a lot of work into something like that only to say, never. I saw a company in California who does custom pop tops but at the price they are, I could get another L400.

Wow,,
That looks like a massive amount of work!! He's done a killer job and I'm sure it's not something he'd wish to do again any time soon. For all the effort, perhaps it's just easier to find one with the pop top already installed......
And for that matter, I recall the guy I bought my van from, Craig at Bonsai Rides, brining in a sweet Delica camper for a decent price. The body was a little wider at the back and it had everything inside it, including the kitchen sink.
Problem solved:)

If someone is interested, I have the "kitchen unit" from a Westfailia, I was going to put in my Deli, but plans changed...
It would be best suited to a Pop Top Deli...

Re: Camper pop top
I saw those at Karim's. He wants to shoot them to the US. He has a fibreglass mold to make a top if you want to haggle with him a bit to have one made... then do some R and D of your own to pop top your van.
