Hey
There is a fellow that offers to redo your old struts for $100.00. If you have a ladder he can make them work too.
I am just waiting to to have 3-4 more to take out there at the same time. Please let me know if yours are dead and I can bring your in at the same time or meet up with you on the way out there and we can get then resurrected. For sure one less headache.
Call 778 865 8225 or send an email
Thank you,
Daniel

mine can not support the extra weight of the new ladder, however I'm not exactly close to you...
if these struts can be made to handle the extra weight though it would be good to know so I can look around here for someone to do the same...

Hey Green1,
Here is what I emailed to Ginny:
I was thinking some members who are out of the 604 would pick up on this...
What I could do is if there is a day that we set I could go and p/u a bunch at the greyhound depot as that is not to far away.
I am not the one who does the work but basically they get repacked with hydraulic fluid (from what I can gather) and that is done to any load rating and length
.
If you can find a company locally that does strut and such for other applications then they would be able to do it too. They just need your old set as they reuse the hardware.

Re: Rear gate struts re-birth. Mine are dead!!
Its a bit of work, but one way around the problem is to fit extra gas struts.
Click here to see what I mean
I did this a few years back and my tailgate will now hold the weight of my ladder and my bike rack and still open with some force!
I'm about to do the same to the Mud Monkey - spare gas struts can be picked up for next to nothing from vehicles being parted out and it works out a LOT cheaper than having your existing ones specially re-gassed......and those that have had then re-gassed here in the UK have had nothing but trouble! (working fine for a few months then losing strength!!!!)
If you want me to give you sizes/lengths/dimensions, please let me know?

Hey all
I have good and bad news
Bad: the cost is 100 PER UNIT.
Good news: the is now flying open, even with the weight if a ladder. I can open the gate with my pinky and then the strut kick in and does the rest.
No free but well worth it.

That sounds like a good deal, better than the more than 150$/each I've heard for new ones. Tried to replace with something else but they were too short and not nearly strong enough. I like Mystery Machine's idea and it looks like it works well, but it does seem a little excessive (now there are four struts to maintain).
Where did you get this re-gassing done, and how do I get a couple here on the Island? Would I have to remove the ones in the van, send them to you, re-gassed, sent back, reinstalled? Or do you have a couple of extras?

Thank you
I talked to Frank from Strutwise and he gave me a price of $150/pair to recharge the rear hatch struts, and that includes the 15 year old plastic pieces on the ends. Like Delicanadabc said, he can also boost the output for anyone with ladders and/or ski racks to compensate for the extra weight. I also told him about our forum here and the number of Delica owners who may need his services and asked if he would be willing to do a Delica.ca "Members" discount. He dropped it down to $120 for "Members". So if anyone needs a recharge get in touch with Frank @ Strutwise and tell him you are from this forum.
