I have a '91 L300 RHD w/ the 6v glowplug system... it doesn't work. I've temporarily bypassed it with a PB switch to the 6v solenoid, but I'd rather have a properly functioning system.
I'm down to it being the controller or the temp sensor. But I'm having trouble w/ the temp probe.
In the above image probe #1 has a single prong, but it looks like there may have been a second one (for glow) and there is a wire for a second one that has been taped back to the harness. From what I've read this should be the glow plug sensor and should be the issue. However, with the probe disconnected (infinite resistance) I would expect the solenoids to trip... they don't.
But probe #2 also appears to be for temp and has two wires... I'd like to know how to get the darn plug off of it so I can inspect it. It has something of a rubber boot/sleeve and I cant see how it releases. I've tried pulling but it seems locked, I'm afraid to try too hard unless I'm certain that's how it is removed. Is this one for the glow plugs? The wiring colors for both do not match the schematic I found online so I'm kind of winging it.
I haven't located the controller yet. I think it is in the pillar behind the driver's seat... if it is, it's not behind the easily removed access panel...
Other issue I have is the turbo is over-boosting I think. Under hard acceleration the overpressure valve dumps. It has a replacement actuator (I was told) which seems to be free, the waste gate arm is free, and I've adjusted the actuator to about minimum (just tight enough to remove any slop). My best guess is the actuator is rated too high... I've ordered a cheap boost gauge and will see when it gets here.
Probably a stupid question...

Not stupid at all, in fact fairly common! Relevant threads from the Technical Reference Library are these ones:

http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=94&t=15336

In summary, though: the single wire sensor (blue/yellow stripe wire) turns the AC off if your engine overheats. There should be a second wire (the one that's taped up) which sometimes goes to a second single-wire sensor, and that one turns the AC electric fan *on* if your engine overheats.
The two wires coming from the dual wire sensor drive the glow controller ECU and the dashboard temperature gauge.
If your glow plugs aren't working *at all*, it's likely the ECU has some corrosion on the circuit board. Dismantle, clean up, repair. If they work, but are a bit intermittent or inadequate, it might be the dual-wire sensor.

Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

Re: Probably a stupid question...
Thanks Growler, those answered my questions... I did/do suspect it's the ECU because I get "nothing," but everything I've tested works fine and the temp gauge is functional. Nice to see that it's quite simple inside. Now I just have to dig it out.

Re: Probably a stupid question...
Took out the controller. Had a bit of corrosion and failed traces. Cleaned up and jumped the bad traces but still no joy. I'm pretty certain at least one capacitor is bad. At this point I'm not sure if replacing/chasing components on the board is a better idea than just sourcing a replacement...

Re: Probably a stupid question...
The large capacitor closest to the relay is the one that fails first. On mine it had released corrosive goo that had corroded some traces on the underside as well as on the top of the board. It took a couple of tries and a magnifying glass to find all the broken traces.
