Heater questions

Post by 204explorer »

Since it is getting cooler out, the heater questions are getting more frequent. We picked up our L400 on Monday and are on our way back from Vancouver Island to Manitoba (currently in Calgary). Last night was the first time driving in the dark and I noticed that none of the heater buttons light up. The display is working normal. Also the button for the rear heater control (on the front panel) does not let me control the rear heater (I didn't try to control it from the rear panel yet) This was working fine for the first couple of days but died sometime yesterday.
I seem to be unable to direct air to my feet and defrost the windshield. This is my preferred setting for cold winter days but it seems not possible with this system.
The van is a lwb royal exceed in case that matters.
Thanks for your insight
Andy

Heater questions

I just answered my question about controlling the rear heater from the front panel. The rear panel was turned off. I still would like to know if the buttons are supposed to light up and if it is possible to defrost the windshield and heat my feet at the same time.

The buttons are supposed to light up. I'm betting that the bulbs are burnt out. I'd recommend putting in leds.
If your still in Calgary I have a bunch of led your more then welcome too.

Thanks Kurtis but we just made it back to Manitoba. So now I just have to figure out how to take that panel out. Is it one of these pry and pray things? ( pray that the brittle plastic doesn't break).

Hey Andy,

I converted my entire dash to blue, I found this thread super useful.

http://www.delicaclub.com/viewtopic.php ... 89439aa778

Off the top of my head,
To take the center cluster apart
If you have the top cluster in the center, the Ack half should pop off giving you access to the screws.

There is a screw on either side of the cup holder, which will just pull out.

The center dash will then pop off. Be very careful it is easy to crack and an expensive little bugger.

If I remember correctly the heater is two screws that should be on either side.

From there if I remember correctly the other casing has to come off and it should give you access to the bulb holders.

Hope this helps
