Turbocharger Pressure Test

All,

I came across a list of items to check on a newly acquired Deli. One of the items is to check the Turbocharger Pressure. Is this something I should do? If so, are there any good videos out there?

See that it is getting boost, in other words. There is also a leak test to look for leaks in piping and the turbo, but the pressure side of the turbo is pretty short on the l300 (there's no intercooler plumbing).

Its not hard to plumb a gauge. to check where your boost is you need the gauge and hose. But until you decide you want one you might get some help just to check that off the list. I found mine was in the ten to twelve psi range at full boost and am happy enough with that.

1) go to bench/supply bag/other car/store and get vacuum 't', hose, and vacuum gauge
2) bring them to the van, open up engine cover, prop, then locate manifold pressure hose going to Injector Pump (IP)
3) remove hose at IP and install hose 't", cutting a short length of the new hose to reconnect to the pump on the others side of the "t"
4) INstall the remaining new hose on the remaining 't' orfice and attach other end to vacuum gauge.
5) lead the vacuum gauge and hose onto the driver seat and close the cover on top of it with some sort of a shim to keep the hose from being entirely by the cover.
6) Operate the van under hard acceleration on an on-ramp and observe boost.

MIne would behave like this. Under load or hard acceleration it would go to max boost and stay there (about 10 or so on a very wide range gauge, so not too accurate). Cruising on the four-lane on the level it owuld do about 5psi. Boost did not seem to register very early in the revs.

hehe he's right. Careless of me.. but my gauge doesn't care if its boost or vacuum!
