Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Looking for a new battery.

Post by mbergerooo »

Hi,
I was wondering what people on delica.ca are running in there L300s? I have been reading for days now without finding a definitive answer. Lordco recommends a AC Delco 27PG for 257$. There upgrade from there is the Optima Yellow Top for 500$! I use the exclamation point because Saskbattery.com will sell the Optima Yellow Top for 295$ and free shipping. So I don't know what to do. Any recommendations/opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Odyssey or Exide are the best value - I have used both and both work well. A large Exide is probably all you need for starting. Pay attention to the terminal configuration. ( Voice of experience!! )

Hi Irp374,
What model Odyssey have you used? There are many different models online and I don't know enough to sort them out.

I can't seem to find Exide batteries locally or at Saskbattery.com.

Every once in a while I go back to the DinoEvo site. They used a Odyssey 35-PC1400 as there starter battery. Would that be all I need in a single battery set-up? Is the 400$ worth it?

The 34 or 35 series is what I've used. The Exide is http://saskbattery.com/ecommerce_307.htm

Cool. Thanks Irp374. I am emailing with Saskbattery.com right now. The Exide is half the price of the Odyssey. I will most likely go with the Exide but who knows... I may discover a very good reason for the price and step up.

Oh. Now I am leaning toward the Odyssey. Saskbattery.com also recommended the Optima Red Top as an option. But there are a lot of one star reviews on Amazon.com about Optima batteries quitting prematurely. Maybe quality control or user malfunction? I have read too much about batteries today and still know very little about them.

My Strada has 2 batteries and 2 years ago I went with a pair of Cross Country (Besa) batteries from Manitoba Battery, saskbatteries Manitoba outlet I guess. 950CA each and about $120 a pop, good reviews, MB battery recommends them. 2 year free replacement, 6 year pro-rated. I use one in my Impreza all winter, starts at -40C no problem. I couldn't spend $3-400 on one battery. A battery blanket would also help and is a lot cheaper! I always look at a batteries weight, the heavier it is the more lead is in it and the more power it has. Batteries can be similar in size but if one weighs 10-15 pounds more that's the one to go with. I looked at those new style and prices of batteries but the sticker shock!

Hi Ralph in Winnipeg.
That sounds like a good deal to me but I already pulled the trigger on the Odyssey 34-PC1500 from Saskbattery.com. I also picked up a smart charger while I was at it. Can't wait to get it in the van! No more morning start problems. :-D It has a 4 year replacement warranty and it weighs 50lbs.

I would be very hesitant to put an Odyssey (or Optima/similar) into these old vans. AFAIK they charge in the 13v range and those types of batteries require a minimum of 14.2v charge cycle (14.5-15v for deep cycling). 13v is fine as a maintenance voltage, but it will severely shorten the life otherwise.

I wasted several Odysseys in my motorcycle before I learned this...
