what parts from what place

Post by northvanmatt »

hello all so stoked to see this forum I had know idea it was here until today. I just bought a 91 delica super exceed and it should be here around feb 8-9/07. I have read almost every post on here but i still have a few questions. what parts can be bought from places like lordco and such and what needs to be shipped over. For example new hoses, filters and brake parts to start off with. when I get my van I paln to change all fluids, belts, hoses and filters when I get the inspection done. I saw maximum overdrive in richmond has filters at a reasonalbe price can they get other parts a well. ALso has anyone recently got an inspection done i would like to know who you used and how it went.
thank you very much

I can't wait to drive my delica and I know this forum will be a great tool

Regards

Hi;
Welcome to the board from another new member. I am still looking for a Delica, and was wondering where you got yours, and if the Canadian conversions are being done for you, or if you are doing it all yourself.

Thanks

Hi Matt -- glad to to see you found us, and a warm welcome to the forum!

My experience importing a Delica is somewhat dated (spring of 2005), so I'll defer to others to provide more up-to-date advice.

I've been without Delica for about 14th months now, but am hoping to buy another over the next few months, hopefully one with a crystal-lite roof, and hopefully prior to Delica Fest 2007 (viewtopic.php?t=181). The only hickup is that I would need to sell or trade my current wheels though (Mercedes 300D).

Cheers,
Mark

hello PcSpecialist I imported the van my self and so far so good. I wanted a delica for a long time and really looked around before buying. I looked at the price here and thought that they were reasonable but wanted to look at importing my self. I used japan auto direct in japan as an agent. I used a fellow named Dane Gillett. He is excellent. He went to the auction for me looked at the vans told me weather he thought it was agood deal or not , sent lots of pics. He found exactly what I was looking for. A 91 super exceed crystal lite with cool box. It is dark green 60,000km and auction grade 4 interior grade B. Dane has helped me with everything and it should be on the boat on the 29th of january. Landed in Canada for well lets say a lot less than the ones here. I feel like I am some what mechanical and plan to do all the work my self to get it ready for inspection. I have read up about all the rules and cross my fingers will have know issues. I know that buying one here is WAY SAFER but even if I need to put a few thousand into the van I will have still saved. I hope this helps if you need any info about japan auto direct send me an e-mail

hey northvanmatt, welcome to this community of delica geeks, surfers hippies, red necks, frogs and hasbeens!!
good times, and congrats on your new van! as far as parts, go back to the "canadian parts" or the "brakes and rotors" polls, the L300 technical should answer a lot of your questions, lots of stuff available at places like lordco or napa, stuff like filters, belts, brake pads and rotors, calipers, etc.. you just got a research a bit, make sure that you get the right stuff, a lot of part infos on this site doesn't always match, and remember, if you get some after market part from overseas, what mechanic is going to want to offer you a warranty if the part fails, who is he going to go after and how long is it going to take?
talk to Glenn at coombs country autos in coombs on the island, he has researched a lot of parts that were used on some north american vehicle that used the 4D56T engine back in the 80's or 90"s, the stuff is out there, you just have to research a lot, we sourced out a water pump that was available in NA that fits the delica, it was in ohio at lordco, got it shipped, lordco backs their parts 100%, if part fails, they will pay for all damage, towing, replacement etc,.. try get that from some dude in korea that shipped you a part from overseas... i think you'l be stuck on the side of the high way with your thumb up! anyways, thats just my two bits, good luck and welcome!

Well, actually buying one here is no guarantee either. A lot of the shortcomings of the van can be hidden... like water leaks etc. They generally all look pretty decent on the surface.

I think a lot of us who bought local probably have just as many problems as those who have imported.

Local problems

Post by ccautos »

Most dealers (if reputable) will give you a warranty or prepare the vehicle correctly . Most problems seem to stem from minimum amount of work done on entry into the country . I am just starting on my next batch of four Delicas that should be ready for sale in the next couple of weeks . They have all had filters , fluids , belts , batteries , lights and alignment before sale . Most even have four new tires . This is not to say that some vehicles have cosmetic issues - but they are sixteen years old - you are not buying a new vehicle !! If I were a buyer I think paying a couple of thousand more for the vehicle and getting to check it out first versus buying it `blind` in Japan and shipping it here before getting to look at it , is well worth it .

I got some belt kits from mits in Japan [belt and idler]. They come in a Gates box. Hopefully the gates # can be used to source them locally.

I won't post the # until I verify that they fit ;)
