installing stereo

is there a good place to get a stereo installed in my delica?
i assume the Karaoke machine or sound stage unit may confuse an inexperienced installer.

Mardy has a friend who works there, he's done tons of JDMs, and a number of Delicas. He knows what he's doing.

It's a pretty straightforward job - get a 1991 Dodge Colt headunit adapter, solder it to the new stereo's wires, plug it in and you're good to go. The trickier thing is replacing the speakers, which should be done if you want better than stock sound. The rear stereo controls are ignored as far as I know.

So does that unit mate with the existing connectors in the Delica so you can use the wires to connect to from the new stereo?

ALso I read in another post by Noel that JVC Stereos are already compatible with the Delica connectors?

ALso BTW, for anyone looking for a cheap and cheerful solution, we just grabbed a Nexstar on sale in Wal Mart for $79.00 that has USB and SD SLots as well as the Aux input. It's only 60 Watts per channel but we put it in my G'friends Explorer and it seemed fine. Getting the USB and SD slots was the main attraction at that price.

The adapter thing you buy plugs into the delica stereo plugs and gives you labeled wires that you connect to the stereo's wires / plug. I got mine at Futureshop, they didn't have them on the shelf in the store, I had to ask for it and then go down to the installation bay where they keep them to pick it up.

I don't have a real stereo installed, I just used it to wire in speaker wire from an amp that I plug a laptop (or now iPod) into...

Hi . I got a stereo installed at vader speed and sound today
I am very happy with the job they did. It turned out nice and clean.
It is on the expensive side. For those of you buying vans from auction in japan, tell them to leave the stock radio in or at least don't take the damn brackets !! That cost me extra because the guy had to fab some brackets up. Then the pocket to put in below the single din head unit was another $20...... So now i have "......six-blasting-17 year old-paper speaker-sound with high definition speaker fart !!" hahaha..... I am fussy when it comes to sound though... Music is my life. I will follow the advice of others on the forum and replace my front speakers as soon as possible. ALso I will install my amp and small subs (2,8" in a sealed enclosure) Then we will see.

I was very happy that the stock rear speakers run in series so with only 4 speakers hook up on the cd player all 6 speakers are going.

Guys at Vader are next to Mardy's shop, and they install Delicas, so they know what works, they know the measurments etc, they've done it.
That's why I recommended them.

I had a Dodge colt when I got the Delica and since they're both Mitsubishi Motors products I popped the stock stereo out of the Colt and it plugged right into the Delica, so I knew it used the exact same connector as the Colt, which is easily found by mindless sales drones.

Well, although my Deli came with a decent Japanese aftermarket stereo, guess I'll go for that Wal Mart unit at $80.00 that takes SD cards so at least I can listen to AM/FM again.

Magic, seeing as you are in North Van why not check out "Performance Car Stereo" at the bottom of Pemberton Avenue. Ask for JP and tell him Falco sent you. They have done a few Delicas now and do excellent work, as well as back up their work. By the way, they do more than just stereos.

Sorry Falco, I have pretty bad luck with the guys in 'Performance'. It started with the wrong manual book they gave me and after all negotiations I had to download it as a PDF file and printed it out. Later I found a couple of broken plastic pieces on the floor on the passenger side. I took out the stereo and sure enough I found that 1 screw they put in caused the plastic mount to brake apart. Finally recently the whole mount kit fell apart when I was offroading. Taking the whole thing out I found that they used glue and cheap plastic mounting kit for mounting a pretty heavy unit , so now I have broken pieces of plastic and no stereo in the dash. I am not going back to them because of as you said: '...the way they hold their tools'. Now I wonder how long your stereo mount will stay intact. Also this shop is expensive as everything else on the North Shore.

Hmm,, $80.00 stereo from Wal-Mart that takes SD and USB cards. The existing color coded wires in the Delica and the ones on the stereo matched exactly. Spliced all the same color wires together and slid it in, whole job took all of 45 minutes, didn;t need an adapter or a dash kit. Sometimes you just get lucky.
