Ok!! so I have been talking to the Manitoba inspection and standards officer, and I am about to pull out my hair in frustration. SAE-DOT is apparently the only way I am going to be able to get my Delica registered in Manitoba. Sure my front lights have the E code... but my rears don't... but according to the man the E doesn't cover it... I know everyone says they are the same... but how do you tell that to someone in a different province, that has never seen a Delica before... so do I take the chance and have to argue my way through the inspection?? If there are any Manitobians out there, PLEASE HELP!!

point out to them that most new BMW, Mercedes, Smart, and even many domestics do NOT have DOT lights and only have E code.
for reference point to CMVSS section 108.1 where it specifically states that e code is acceptable as long as it's designed for right side of the road.
As for the tail lights, tell them to contact Brian Kangas (head of inspections for BC) as he has a report certifying that JIS lights are equivlant to DOT for all lights except headlights... On second thought, I believe the Delica has E code lights here too, in which case see my previous statement about CMVSS section 108.1
For further help it might be worth checking out the Import Vehicle Owners Association of Canada
