Anyone bought from Monky's?
Hey folks,
I am looking at bringing in a super exceed, looks in good condition, but may need tires. I'm getting it from Monky's Inc. They supplied me with tons of pics and how they do a super clean up etc. before shipping. Has anyone dealt with them? And about those tires, what is the ruling with inspection in Canada about tread depth? Would I have to pay for new tires before it even sees the road? Thanks for any and all info.

Re: Anyone bought from Monky's?
Haven't heard of them.
You may also look into using a local importer/person as an alternative or at least consider it as an option as well.
I've found over the past few years after importing myself, that the cost difference between importing yourself (getting it all compliant, mechanically up to spec) and having a local importer/dealer have it here for you (high rating) is very small $ once all is said and done.
Tires will need to be replaced with DOT North American standard if it's not already done on there.
I had one Delica come in with 2 sets of tires. One was non-compliant while the other set actually had DOT rating on them but were below the tread depth limit.
Welcome and good luck.
Importing on your own or through an exporter in Japan can be exciting, nerve racking, frustrating, disappointing and rewarding all in one.
Think I summed it up

I have bought 2 vans from him. My opinion don't bother.Vans don't come in as clean as they say. One van had a badly rusted roof that I never got a picture of. He spray paints what he doesn't want you to see. After repeated e-mails I never got a response back.Very dissapointed.
My opinion buy locally, its not worth the suprises and the grief. You don't save that much in the end.
The person that has helped me a lot was Mardy from Amazing Autos, he is very honest and he will make sure you don't have any problems.

Thanks for responses, I will take both into consideration. What is the price range for a full set of tires, should it come down to it?
thanks again

Anywhere from 150 for four up to 1,500 for four.shuggyss wrote:Thanks for responses, I will take both into consideration. What is the price range for a full set of tires, should it come down to it?

It's relative to the type of tires, make of tires and size of tires you'd like to put on.
With that said, average purchase/mount & balance for 235/75/15 All season's is roughly $350.

I think Wayne from Luxury Imports has used them, I know he recieved super nice vehicles but it had nothing to do with Monky's and more to do with Wayne. Sorry to speak on behalf of Wayne, but I bid on a couple vans that he ended up winning a few years ago and my friend in Japan said that Monky's got them... few months later the vans showed up on his website.

Ok,
sorry for all the FNG questions but this ? deals with auction sheets and translating. I'm in process of possibly bidding on this veh. It is at a USS auction. the sheet shows it as a 3.5 grade and just below that it says 'C'.
Now using the general grading translator, is this the interior grade or what? My Japanese is non existent except for pleasantries. Thanks again.

Re: Anyone bought from Monky's?
3.5 is the exterior grade and "c" is the interior. This is a topic of debate, as the vehicle that was graded this way by one inspector may be graded totally differnet from another inspector. The key is to have eyes with mechanical knowledge on the other side of the pond checking it for you. The theory that the higher rated cars are better stems from the fact that Japanese are proud car owners and if they took care of the exterior / interior then the it was likely that they also took care of the mechanicals. My take is; buy a vehicle that was still under SHAKEN or recently expired SHAKEN. This will insure the vehicle was driven the from new until now or recent. It also means it was maintained until this point as the government inspections (SHAKEN) are strict. If you want you can PM me a copy of the auction sheet and I will ask my wife to translate it. The auction sheet may advise of any short comings of the vehicle. Often you see comments like "turbo leak", "oil leak", "rust under carrige" ect...

Amazing Power of this Forum!!!
After complaining about the treatment I recieved on purchasing my van from Yas at Monky's Inc. on this forum, I recieved a e-mail from him.
He asked if I had problems because he had heard about comments on this topic that I had posted. He stated that he switched e-mails accounts and did not recieve my complaints. He did eventually find my e-mails and was very apologetic and did not want his reputation hurt in Canada.
He reviewed my concerns and sent me a refund to compensate for problems on my van immediately.
I highly recommend him now, that he has owned up to his responsiblities and that he actually cares about his reputation, because it would of been very easy for him just to walk away.
Thank You Yas for your honesty.

I was having a disagreement with our dealer about what was covered under warranty and what was not. I referred him to the dealer / importer feedback post (http://www.delica.ca/forum/delica-deale ... -3086.html) and the thousands of views it's had. Then they changed their mind.
