This is twice now, my alternator is messin' with me

This is the second time in the last 6 months that my alternator wire connector has broken off. The first time the original flimsy connectors broke , I replaced them with a single battery terminal connector crimped and soldered... now that broke . Now I have separated the wires again and went with two individual crimped and soldered battery terminal connectors. Hopefully this holds, has anyone else had this problem?

On a side note, the first time the connectors broke I also discovered the adjustment arm for the alternator snapped at the engine block but it stayed in place long enough until I got a replacement from CCA. I also ended up going with a smaller set of belts since that held the alternator closer to the engine and would cause less stress on the arm.

That really sounds like your alternator is moving around - either slackening off or being jarred as the engine vibrates about. You've experienced the same problem twice, it would seem it's not your wires. Are they long enough? Did you trim any length off when you made repairs the first time?

I think that was the cause the first time... the broken adjustor arm and a loose pivot bolt. But after that I tightened them all up and everything was, and is, running tight. I'll just have to keep an eye on it I guess.

And yes the wires are long enough, even though I had to trim a bit off to get the new connectors on. If it happens again I will just replace the stock wires with a better heavier single wire all the way to the battery.
