Say Hello to Kimberly

Post by EnviroImports.com »

This is the Kimberley,
A killer rack we made for Charles and his delica, on there trip down to Mexico.
With enough lights to light up the desert infront of him, the center lights are for Long range down the highway and the outers will light up the front and sides of the road,
rear facing lights to not take down any cactus while backing up and for setting up a camp at night or for doing any changing of tires ect... it has side lights.
Also a removable cross bar that will hold tight Jerry cans of fuel or milk crates for what ever else might want to get dropped into them. we also put on a permanently mounted locking cable to go over the jerry cans and lock into place, or to lock down bags or bikes or what ever else might go up there and want to have it secured. And somehow with all this he Still manages to get into his carport at home.
the rack only requires 2 cross bars to support the entire load as these are our famous cross bars that EACH support 1120 lbs,
I look forward to seeing a sofa up on the roof rack at a fireworks show in the future.
the rack is 4x8 + the light bar. the price is a nunya
. I do like a great rack.

Well done that is one hell of a rack.

1120 lbs - okay, the bars will hold that, but will the rain gutters?

Also, that thing in the rack in the last two photos will only howl for a bit. First big bug it swallows should quiet it down!

And for the rest of us: how much is "a nunya"? I realise this is a custom job, but can it be replicated? maybe with fewer lights?

Hi, yes it can be reproduced, with what ever changes you would like, lights or no lights, Its VERY time consuming to make as its all tig welded and not just stich welds, corners are 45'd on the corners so its not going to howl from air running through the tubes as you drive. yes the rain gutters will give way befor the roof rack does, but thats the point of making them so strong, you wont have a heavy load on the rack and have the brackets fold like the not so cheap ones available everywhere.... you know the ones I mean.

I'm happy you like it. 8-)

there is one side section on the right side of the rack which is extruded mesh instead of empty... what's the reasoning on that?

beyond that, looks good! I think I'd still be inclined to use more than 2 bars though, not because the bars aren't strong enough (I'm sure they are) but because I'd rather spread the load out on the gutters more.

the one side has expanded in the center to have a place to anchor the bunjie cords to and not have a tottal industrial look to it, and the side with out it will have an addition put on closer to the departure date for the big trip, there will be a 4ft Jack-all mounted to the inside and a cover put there so the Jack is not visible from the ground.
