with the help of friends i am working on installing my two tank WVO system. it is known as "slavko's system" or gocanola. its coming from bulgaria where slavko currently resides.
kevin aka bcdelica helped me to figure out what to get for plumbing and we played around at the various plumbing/marine/auto shops with bits and pieces.
i got a ~40 litre gas tank from a GMC tracker/sidekick. im plumbing it to the larger of the two stock tanks, and leaving the smaller for diesel.
today with my friend don, who has a hoist in his shop, and a friend of his with a tig welder (why not?) we did some plumbing. the fitting that you see welded on will connect a hose to the stock tank.

in the bottom of the above photo you can see the fitting welded through for the siphon between the tanks.

the weld went so well im thinkin of having it done to the rear of the stock tank for a quick and easy connect.



after, don painted it with rock gaurd.

we cut holes through the compartment where the jack is stored. the filler will go on the outside at a comfortable height for jerry cans.

don has air tools, grinders with different kinds of cutting bits and welding equipment. ive done WVO installs with out all that, but it sure makes for a clean and pro install!

Looks like I missed some fun!

Just out of curiosity, have you considered doing something like this? You can't quite see it, but the fuel filler is actually in behind the hinged tail light. Looks like your pipe is already in a prime position for this sort of thing.

Means you don't have to cut into the body, and keeps the outside looking much more flush... admittedly this is on a car that has had all of its handles etc shaved (removed), but the principle is the same!

that was considered at one point, but youll see in a sec that the outside filler is plenty flush and looks good too!

friday we almost got the tank hung, we were just short a few bolts.

inside behind the light, the hoses are plumbed! that 1 1/2" fuel line was $50!! i want this tank to also be okay for diesel, so the whole WVO part of the system will be al fuel lines etc. you can see the filler cap hanging in the left of the photo

here is the beautiful outside filler for the WVO tank. its a vented filler for marine application.
note the "texada racing stripes" added to the paint.

we cleaned up and painted a couple of pieces of old bed rail for the hangars. this rail is bolted into some extisting holes that if i remember right held part of the bumper or step. you can see the holes drilled in the crossmember for the next hangar

we also got all the plumbing done inside the tank. we cleaned all the pieces real nice with metal brushes to get off rust and silicone that was all over the port covers

the whole tank is painted with rock gaurd and is totally sealed up and rust proof as well!!

after we finished work i went down to powell river's blackberry fest and parked my delica in the delica parking at local locos (sorry no photos) and then i partied my face off into the night!!

the tank will be hung today and i anticipate the arrival of the heat exchanger

a funny ting happened as i was backing out of the shop (not including hitting the shop door):
now i have a backup beeper that i never heard before! in addition the the one you hear in the front, now anybody will here me backing up if they are behind the van!! all i did was undo a ground to get it out of the way, then put it back on!

it was a bitch to get the 1 1/2" inch hose on the 1 5/8" filler fitting. we heated it with a blow dryer till it was almost too hot to the touch and then we rastled with the tank till it got on the fitting. we couldnt get it on very far enough, just enough to get a hose clamp on

the skid plate had two hanging holes that matched the inside tank hangars. don bent the holes on the outside and drilled some holes in the angle iron to bolt to.
and heres the ever resourceful don of dons transmission shop putting the final bolt on the skid plate

i guess i owe y'all a photo of the van on the ground to see the clearance. i hope the departure angle isnt diminished too much because of the tank.
overall its a super clean and tight job. very pro i think. i have no worry that the system so far might make an inspector think it unsafe.
don charged me some shop time, but only about 60% of the hours actually spent on it. it was fun to work with him anyhow.

I like the back side of the space antelope better now, wish I'd had a bumper like that on my Delica.

These are lousy phone snaps, Afteroil will post some better one of the finshed product. Ie more to come, just want to show whats been done so far.

Nice looking spare mount for sure! Great project all the way after oil. Since you are soon to be burning pure WVO, will you still blend your diesel? Love the "Dog on Board" sticker btw - Radar sounds like a cool guy

maybe ill blend 80/20 but i wont be using much so it wont matter either way.

funny thing is the dog on board sticker came on the van. its a miniature pincher named clover. the japanese must come up with some clever dog names!

Just had another look at your spare mount (when having another glance at the dog sticker ) and I noticed your licence plate is mounted in the center of the spare. I'm pretty sure the plate is required to have a lamp shining on it...
